Head Teacher Blog: Friday 11th June 2021

Date: 11th Jun 2021 @ 1:01pm

What a glorious start to the final half term we have had – no rain and especially none around 8.30am and 2.45pm, which is what it seemed to do every day for quite a few weeks! I hope that you all had a gorgeous, sunny half term with family and friends and have all returned for the last leg of the race to the finish in good spirits!

This week’s blog seems to have been taken over by Covid announcements, but there are a couple of other things to share later on, so please keep reading!

Contact Tracing

Due to the rise in positive cases in the Winsford and Northwich area, Cheshire West and Chester Public Health have asked all schools to remind their communities of the following information:

We would like to remind everyone that if you test positive for COVID-19, you are responsible for reporting to NHS Test and Trace the name and contact number of everyone you have been in close contact with during your infectious period.  Cases are infectious in the two days before your symptoms started (or two days before your test if you haven’t got symptoms) and the 10 days after your symptoms started (or 10 days after your test if you haven’t got symptoms).

Schools will contact trace all contacts in the setting, but for any contacts outside of the school, it is the responsibility of the ‘positive case’ to advise NHS Test and Trace who is a contact.

If you test positive, you should also advise anyone you have been in contact with during the infectious period, that they should isolate and wait to be contacted by NHS Test and Trace.  If schools become aware of pupils who have been in contact with cases during the infectious period and are not isolating, they will advise the student to self-isolate. Isolation means that you must not leave your home at all, for example, not even to pop to the shops, to visit a friend in their garden, have friends visit you. You must stay at home until you receive either a negative result or, in the case of a positive result, you have completed your 10 day isolation period.

Informing School of a Positive Result

With the rise in cases in the Winsford and Northwich areas due to the Delta variant, please may I remind you that if any of your children have to take a COVID test and the result comes back positive, we need to know this at school as a matter of urgency, whether it is evenings or weekends, to enable us time to organise things in school and contact the relevant people. During school hours, please call the office on 01606 592608 – do not leave an answer phone message – please continue to ring until you speak to someone. If it is the evenings or weekends, please e mail your child’s name and class to positiveresult@overstjohns.cheshire.sch.uk This is for positive results in our children only. If your child needs to isolate as a direct contact because of someone in your household, childcare or support bubble has tested positive, please e mail the normal admin@overstjohns.cheshire.sch.uk address.

Roving Vaccination Clinics from Monday 14th June 2021

If you are aged 40 or over and haven’t yet had your first vaccination against COVID-19 of someone who you know falls into this group (family member, friend, neighbour, etc.), then a roving vaccination clinic can be accessed.

There will be walk-in vaccination clinics in our area on the following days next week:

  • Monday 14th June – Cheviot Square Car Park, Over, Winsford, CW7 1QS
  • Friday 18th June – Northwich Memorial Court, Chesterway, Northwich, CW9 5QJ

All clinics will run from 10.00 to 16.00 (or for as long as vaccine supplies last).  You don’t need to book an appointment in advance – just turn up on the day.

You will need to provide the following details:

  • NHS Number (if you have it)
  • Date of birth
  • Address
  • Email and/or phone number

You’ll be given an appointment for your second dose on the day.

Your NHS number is a 10-digit number, like 485 777 3456. It is on any letter you receive from the NHS or any prescription you have.

Alternatively, you can request this online through the following link:

https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/online-services/find-nhs-number/

You will be asked for your name, date of birth and postcode and will then receive a text, email or letter with your NHS number.

If you can’t make it or you’re aged between 25 and 39, you can book an appointment through the National Booking Service either online (www.nhs.uk/covid-vaccination) or by phoning 119.

Breakfast at Home

You may remember the we used to access free bagels in the morning on the playground as part of the National School Breakfast Programme. The National School Breakfast Programme is now pleased to announce the launch of its breakfast at home area on the Family Action website. The breakfast at home area shares with parents the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast, and the impact this can have on their child’s readiness to learn, health and wellbeing. It offers tools to support parents in providing a low cost, nutritious daily breakfast, when a school breakfast is not available, as they are not at Over St. John’s.
The easy to navigate breakfast at home website contains six main categories; get organised, nutrition and wellbeing, family fun, top tips, recipes and videos and research. Within these categories are planners, hacks, information about what’s in cereal, nutrition factsheets, ideas for weekend breakfast, quizzes and much more. You can access this information here:  Breakfast at Home

#WakeUpWednesday

The European Football Championships gets underway on today and children around the continent will be reaching for FIFA 21 to virtually recreate the sort of shots, passes and saves they’ve watched their real-life heroes pull off on TV. In the popularity league table, FIFA is the Real Madrid of football games – some seasons are better than others, but it’s never away from the summit for long.

Unlike many ‘must-have’ games, FIFA doesn’t include inappropriate content or violence (apart from the odd reckless sliding tackle) but it doesn’t quite keep a clean sheet in the online safety stakes. Parents should be mindful of risks such as in-game purchases, over-competitiveness and the possibility of becoming addicted. National Online Safety’s #WakeUpWednesday guide has all the information you need to keep children safe when they play FIFA 21.
