Head Teacher Blog: Friday 12th May 2023

Date: 12th May 2023 @ 2:23pm

Well done to all our children in Year 6 who have completed their SATs tests this week. They have approached them all in a very cool, calm and considered way and have shown great resilience – even bordering on enjoying them at some points. The outcomes will not be known until July, but regardless of what they are, the children have done fantastically well. Big thanks to Mrs McLaughlin and Mrs Conlon as well who have also been very cool, calm and considered and shown great resilience too, although I think I can safely say that they haven’t enjoyed it!

It is the turn of the children in Year 2 next week as they complete their KS1 SATS.

Half Term Activities

We have received some information from Winsford Lifestyle Centre about several activities in the pool happening in May half term, including swimming crash courses and a jungle pool party. I have attached their pool program below should you wish to take a look.

Wake Up Wednesday

Controversial changes to WhatsApp’s privacy policy back in 2021 was a major shot in the arm for Telegram, as millions of users began searching for a more secure messaging platform. Indeed, Telegram is so confident in its resistance to hacks that it’s previously set challenges (with a prize of up to $300,000) to any user who’s able to crack its encryption.

With protected ‘secret chats’ and self-deleting messages, however, Telegram’s security advantage has also been subverted by criminals using the app to trade stolen data, share child sexual exploitation material and arrange drug deals. As Telegram’s popularity continues to grow, this week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide tells trusted adults what they need to be aware of.

School Dinners

School dinners currently cost £2.45 per day, £12.25 per week. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free meals as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme.  Dinner money must be paid in advance via School Spider as we do not accept cash in school.

If you are in receipt of benefits and think that you may be entitled to free school meals, please click here for more information and support and how to apply. It is very important to apply for free schools meals whatever year your child is in, even if you receive the UIFSM in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as the school receives a sum of extra money to further help support your child and their education.

Absence during Term Time

Please may I remind you that schools are not allowed to authorise pupil holidays in term time. Any child going on holiday in term time will receive an unauthorised absence. Our registers are regularly checked by the Education Welfare Service and parents may be issued with a fine from the Local Authority for unauthorised absence, which is currently £60 per child, per parent and this rises to £120 if paid after 21 days but within 28 days.
