Head Teacher Blog: Friday 14th June 2019

Date: 14th Jun 2019 @ 2:47pm

We have been interviewing for a Key Stage Two teacher for September over the last couple of weeks, which has been a rigorous process involving lesson observations, presentations, unseen activities and a formal interview. However, I am delighted to tell you that we have appointed Mr Pasquill to join our team in September. Mr Pasquill delivered an exciting and engaging lesson, spoke passionately about his career in teaching and also passionately about wanting to teach at Over St. John’s. We are certain that Mr Pasquill will be an excellent addition to our school and we look forward to welcoming him officially in September, although I am sure that he will be in school before then too.

I can now confirm which teachers will be teaching which classes in September – exactly which class your child will be in will be in their reports which are due to come out on Friday 12th July.

Hatchmere      Reception      Mrs Kelly

Sandymere      Year 1             Mrs Williamson and Mrs Worstencroft

Delamere        Year 2              Mrs Bettley

Oakmere         Year 3 and 4   Mrs Riley and Mrs Starsiak

Linmere           Year 4 and 5   Mr Pasquill

Blakemere      Year 5 and 6    Mrs McLaughlin

The children in Delamere and Sandymere had a fantastic - though a little soggy - trip to Delamere Forest on Tuesday. Although the weather wasn’t particularly kind, it certainly didn’t dampen their spirits. The children had a great time and in fact some of the highlights came back from the children that they thoroughly enjoyed splashing in puddles with their wellies on! One young man’s eyes lit up when I asked him how his day had been on his return to school and he simply said, ‘I loved it!’

Huge congratulations to our Key Stage Two children who attended The Winsford Academy on Wednesday night to take part in the Spelling Bee. There were some extremely difficult words that the children had to spell and the children endeavoured (one of the Year 5 words!) to do their best. I could not be more proud of how hard they tried and how well they represented the school. A huge well done to Faye, Isaac, Mia, Eden, Kayleigh, Brooke and Hannah and an extra mention to Isaac who won the Year Three category.

Some of you may have seen that the Government announced on Friday 7 June that the early May bank holiday in 2020 will move from Monday 4 May to Friday 8 May to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day which takes place on 8 May. This is to enable people to pay tribute to those who served in one of the most significant events in our country’s history. The occasion will remember the contribution of British, Commonwealth and Allied armed forces personnel; those who contributed to the war effort and safeguarded the Home Front. As well as marking the Allies’ victory in 1945, the bank holiday will serve as an opportunity to pay tribute to those who have served and continue to serve in the UK Armed Forces and their families. Please note that this therefore is a change to the previous dates that were published on our website.

Thank you so much to those of you who have returned questionnaires to school – we have had 26 back so far and these have been overwhelmingly positive – for which we are very thankful. There is still time to return these before the final information is collated and shared with parents. The deadline is Friday 21st June.

Please may I ask all visitors to school not to bring dogs past the first car park gates? Sadly this week, Mr Gregory had to clean up quite a lot of dog mess that was left on the car park at the end of the day which can pose a health risk to all, so unfortunately we have had to review our policy with regards to this. Many thanks for your support in this matter.

Reminder: If someone different is collecting your child at the end of the day, please may I remind you to let the class teacher know or to ring the office, this then avoids us keeping adults waiting whilst we make phone calls to check. Thank you.
