Hatchmere Dance Showcase

What a treat we had on Wednesday when the children in Hatchmere performed a dance showcase for their parents and carers! The children danced with confidence and the audience thoroughly enjoyed watching them – they had some fabulous fierce faces when they were dancing to Kay Perry’s ‘Roar!’ Well done to all the children and to Mrs Teece for preparing them so well.

Mrs Rutherford

In Collective Worship this morning, we said goodbye to Mrs Rutherford who begins her maternity leave today - we miss her already! Although we are sad to see her go, it won’t be long before we all get to meet her son and then she’ll back sat back in the office before we know it! I’m sure that you will all join with me in sending Mrs Rutherford and her husband lots of love and best wishes for this exciting time ahead.

PTA

As some of you might be aware, our wonderful Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has been run by Kath Crowder (Mum to a pupil in Y6) for a number of years. Over the years, Kath and her team of dedicated parents have raised funds that have helped pay for trips, resources, books, technology and after-school events, all of which have enriched the lives of the children who have attended our school.

Kath will be standing down at the end of the year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her tireless efforts on behalf of our school for the past 11 years. Over St John’s CE Primary School will be always be grateful to her. Thank you Kath!

In light of this news, Over St John’s CE Primary School would like to invite our wider school family to join our PTA. The main role of the PTA would be to help organise events for our children, their families and the wider community to attend/join in with. The aim of these events would be to raise money that could be used for projects throughout the school and enhance the school experience for our pupils. Your role in the PTA can be as involved as you like. You could volunteer for a singular event or be more involved in the planning and running of numerous events.

Please contact admin@overstjohns.cheshire.sch.uk if you feel like you can contribute to our fantastic school.

#WakeUpWednesday

Raising children in the digital age seems to be getting tougher, with the world currently experiencing so many uncertainties. From the continuing impact of COVID-19 to the war in Ukraine, right now children across the globe can scarcely go online without being exposed to unsettling stories, images and ideas. Reassuring a concerned child can be difficult, especially when bad news feels omnipresent. National Online Safety have put together some advice to help you in discussing upsetting events with young ones. In the guide, you'll find a number of tips such as encouraging your child to ask questions, setting limits and to emphasis hope.

School Dinners

School dinners cost £2.34 per day, £11.70 per week. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free meals as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme.  Dinner money must be paid in advance via School Spider.

If you are in receipt of benefits and think that you may be entitled to free school meals, please click here for more information and support and how to apply. It is very important to apply for free school meals whatever year your child is in, even if you receive the UIFSM in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as the school receives a sum of extra money to further help support your child and their education.

Absence during Term Time

Please may I remind you that schools are not allowed to authorise pupil holidays in term time. Any child going on holiday in term time will receive an unauthorised absence. Our registers are regularly checked by the Education Welfare Service and parents may be issued with a fine from the Local Authority for unauthorised absence, which is currently £60 per child, per parent and this rises to £120 if paid after 21 days but within 28 days.
