Head Teacher Blog: Friday 19th May 2023
Date: 19th May 2023 @ 1:46pm
This week has been the turn of our Year 2 children to complete their KS1 SATs. It has been kept very low key and the children may not have realised what they were doing as they completed their ‘Let your light shine quizzes.’ As with last week, the children have been fantastic and taken it all in their stride, as have Mrs Williamson, Mrs Worstencroft and Mrs Starsiak. The outcomes of these will be shared on the children’s written reports in July.
There was much excitement this afternoon in Year 6 as the children went out on to the field to ‘Hunt the Hoodie!’ Their Leaver’s hoodies – a gift from school – arrived earlier this week and they were hidden all around the field and the children had to find their own. The desperation on their faces as they tried to find it as quickly as they could, get their jumper off and replace it with their hoodie was a delight to watch! The children may now wear these to school to replace their school jumper, should they so wish.
Leaping Lambs
We received a letter and a certificate this week from St. Luke's following on from our sponsored Leaping Lambs event - see attached below. Our final total was a massive £1250.30! Thank you so much for all that you did to support this local, much needed charity.
Wake Up Wednesday
Theoretically, digital technology and the online world should improve and simplify our lives and a lot of the time, they do. All too often, however, something we see or someone’s behaviour on the internet can cause distress or worry; especially for younger people, who may not yet have quite developed the resilience or emotional maturity to deal with such setbacks.
Indeed, some aspects of daily digital life can have a profoundly negative impact on how young people feel about themselves, their friendships and relationships and the world in general. To coincide with Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK, today’s #WakeUpWednesday poster is a collection of quick but effective tips to help children prioritise their own wellbeing online.
School Dinners
School dinners currently cost £2.45 per day, £12.25 per week. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free meals as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme. Dinner money must be paid in advance via School Spider as we do not accept cash in school.
If you are in receipt of benefits and think that you may be entitled to free school meals, please click here for more information and support and how to apply. It is very important to apply for free schools meals whatever year your child is in, even if you receive the UIFSM in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as the school receives a sum of extra money to further help support your child and their education.
Absence during Term Time
Please may I remind you that schools are not allowed to authorise pupil holidays in term time. Any child going on holiday in term time will receive an unauthorised absence. Our registers are regularly checked by the Education Welfare Service and parents may be issued with a fine from the Local Authority for unauthorised absence, which is currently £60 per child, per parent and this rises to £120 if paid after 21 days but within 28 days.
