Head Teacher Blog: Friday 20th May 2022

Date: 20th May 2022 @ 11:54am

Well done to the children in Year 2 who have worked so hard this week during KS1 SATs. They have a couple more bits to complete next week, but they have been fantastic and we are incredibly proud of them, as they have taken it all in their special agent stride!

It was so lovely to wave Hatchmere and Sandymere off on a school trip on Monday – the first for a long time. The children had a fabulous day out in Delamere Forest and even though the weather seemed horrible in the morning, it was really kind to them and turned out beautifully. Mrs Kelly told me about the many compliments that the children received during the day for the behaviour and how the bus driver made a point of telling them all when they got back to school that they were the best behaved children he had taken on a trip. The children always make us very proud but hearing things like that from people who don’t know them makes us even prouder – if that is even possible!

We are gearing up for our special Platinum Jubilee Day next Friday. There will be Jubilee themed activities in class throughout the day, a special Jubilee lunch (see the e mail that was sent out earlier this week) and we will be filming our children singing the National Anthem for #ChoirfortheQueen – we have had to learn two verses – during our end of day assembly. Don’t forget that the children can come to school in non-uniform, dressed in red, white and blue. There is no charge for this, it’s just for fun.

Family Film Night

The next Family Film Night is coming up at St. John’s church hall on Sunday 22nd May. This time the film on offer is Aardman Animations and Dreamworks ‘Chicken Run!’

The film begins at 4.30pm and there is no charge for entry. Popcorn, drinks and hot dogs will be available and there will also be a short talk about the film afterwards.

#WakeUpWednesday

Launched in 2015, Discord has steadily emerged as a major player in the online communication marketplace – certainly as far as gamers are concerned. Indeed, with the ability to coordinate gameplay and talk tactics with multiple fellow players in real time, it has also become the collaborative platform of choice for many professional e-sports competitors.

The flip side of Discord’s success is that – in addition to genuine gamers who simply want to improve their playing experience or discuss their favourite titles – it’s also attracted unsavoury individuals who use the platform to post extreme political views, belittle other users or share explicit content. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide tells trusted adults what they need to know.

School Dinners

School dinners cost £2.34 per day, £11.70 per week. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free meals as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme.  Dinner money must be paid in advance via School Spider.

If you are in receipt of benefits and think that you may be entitled to free school meals, please click here for more information and support and how to apply. It is very important to apply for free school meals whatever year your child is in, even if you receive the UIFSM in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as the school receives a sum of extra money to further help support your child and their education.

Absence during Term Time

Please may I remind you that schools are not allowed to authorise pupil holidays in term time. Any child going on holiday in term time will receive an unauthorised absence. Our registers are regularly checked by the Education Welfare Service and parents may be issued with a fine from the Local Authority for unauthorised absence, which is currently £60 per child, per parent and this rises to £120 if paid after 21 days but within 28 days.
