Head Teacher Blog: Friday 21st June 2019

Date: 21st Jun 2019 @ 2:02pm

Huge apologies that we had to cancel Sports Day yesterday – and particularly at such short notice. We were all set to go for the KS1 Sports in the morning and, as you all know, the heavens opened just as the morning bell went! Although the forecast wasn’t for rain in the afternoon, it wasn’t a forecast that we felt was bright and warm enough to dry the field in time for the KS2 Sports in the afternoon. We have now organised another date for Monday 1st July, at the same times: KS1 at 9.15am and KS2 at 1.15pm. We are keeping fingers, toes, arms and legs crossed for a brighter day! It is National School Sports Week next week, so let’s hope for a brighter week for those involved in that also.

Tomorrow is the Delamere Street Festival which is organised by our church. Children in Blakemere are taking part in the opening parade at 11am and singing at the main stage. There are many charity stalls for people to browse as well as exciting activities for children – in particular the Eden Bus. There will be a hog roast, hot dogs and veggie boxes as well as craft ales and a gin bar available for refreshments, all accompanied by talented musicians on the main stage. There are also cream teas available in the church where there will be a number of choirs performing throughout the day and there will be art on display on this year’s theme of hope. It will be a great family day out and I look forward to seeing many of you there.

You may have seen the banner at the front of school with regards to the before and after school club provision that is starting in September in the church hall. Letters went home yesterday to those families that requested further information about this when we initially shared this exciting news a couple of months ago. If you didn’t return a letter last time but would like to take advantage of the Over St. John’s Out of School Club, you can either phone 01606 594651, e mail admin@stjohnover.org.uk or contact through Facebook/ stjohnsover. We are so excited about this provision as we know that it has come up on parental questionnaires a few times over the last few years and we are incredibly grateful to our church in being able to provide this for us.

Reminder from last weeks’ blog: Some of you may have seen that the Government announced on Friday 7 June that the early May bank holiday in 2020 will move from Monday 4 May to Friday 8 May to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day which takes place on 8 May. This is to enable people to pay tribute to those who served in one of the most significant events in our country’s history. The occasion will remember the contribution of British, Commonwealth and Allied armed forces personnel; those who contributed to the war effort and safeguarded the Home Front. As well as marking the Allies’ victory in 1945, the bank holiday will serve as an opportunity to pay tribute to those who have served and continue to serve in the UK Armed Forces and their families. Please note that this therefore is a change to the previous dates that were published on our website.

Thank you so much to those of you who have returned questionnaires to school – we have had 32 returned which represents 23% of those given out. The deadline was today so we will now go on to analyse the returned forms and let you know the outcomes in the next few weeks. Thank you.

Reminder: If someone different is collecting your child at the end of the day, please may I remind you to let the class teacher know or to ring the office, this then avoids us keeping adults waiting whilst we make phone calls to check. Thank you.
