Head Teacher Blog: Friday 22nd April 2022

Date: 22nd Apr 2022 @ 11:33am

We have had a lovely, warm start to the summer term and the children have definitely come back full of the joys of spring! I hope that you all had a lovely Easter break – particularly with the better weather in the second week.

Family Easter Fundraiser

Thank you so much to all those involved with the Meadow Bank Club fundraiser on Easter Sunday in support of the school. We were absolutely delighted to receive £420 on Tuesday morning as a result of the fundraiser which will make a big difference to the provision for the children in Hatchmere, following on from the vandalism that we have experienced. Thank you again.

Summer Uniform

Now that we are in the summer term, please may I take this opportunity to remind you of the options for a summer uniform as detailed in our uniform policy, which is available on our website. School uniform consists of:

  • Light blue polo shirt
  • Blue school sweatshirt or cardigan
  • Grey skirt or grey trousers
  • Sensible black shoes (not trainers) which are flat and offer support, Velcro fastenings are ideal
  • Grey or white socks, grey tights
  • Blue/ white checked summer dress or grey shorts in the summer

Healthy Lunches and Snacks

Please may I remind you of the importance of sending healthy lunches and snacks into school for your children? Recently, we are seeing an increase in things such as chocolate spread sandwiches, packets of sweets and chocolate bars for children’s snacks and lunch. Whilst I fully appreciate that what you choose to send for your child is your choice, I would like to encourage everyone to choose healthier, lower sugar options where possible. Please take a look at this link which gives some ideas from the NHS and Change for Life for food swaps. Thank you for your support with this.

Film Night

St. John’s Church are holding another film night on Sunday 24th April – please see the flyer attached below for further details.

#WakeUpWednesday

The volume of advertising we’re exposed to has mushroomed in recent times. In the 1980s, it was estimated that a person living in a large city saw an average of 2,000 advertising messages per day: on billboards, bus stops and branded merchandise, for example. By 2021, some studies were suggesting that figure was more like 10,000 a day. So what happened? The obvious game-changer, of course, was the coming of the internet and social media in particular. Now, advertisers are able to sell us their products without us even realising we’ve been manipulated. This week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide has some top tips for helping young people identify less obvious adverts on social media.

Now Northwich 2022

Now Northwich is back on Saturday 30th April 2022! Produced by Cheshire Dance, Now Northwich is an international dance and street arts festival that will be taking place for the third time on 30th April across Northwich Town Centre and Barons Quay from 11.30am til late. This is a fantastic opportunity for families to experience a variety of arts over a 12 hour period for free.

Please see the poster attached below for further details and visit www.nownorthwich.co.uk

School Dinners

School dinners cost £2.34 per day, £11.70 per week. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free meals as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme.  Dinner money must be paid in advance via School Spider.

If you are in receipt of benefits and think that you may be entitled to free school meals, please click here for more information and support and how to apply. It is very important to apply for free school meals whatever year your child is in, even if you receive the UIFSM in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as the school receives a sum of extra money to further help support your child and their education.

Absence during Term Time

Please may I remind you that schools are not allowed to authorise pupil holidays in term time. Any child going on holiday in term time will receive an unauthorised absence. Our registers are regularly checked by the Education Welfare Service and parents may be issued with a fine from the Local Authority for unauthorised absence, which is currently £60 per child, per parent and this rises to £120 if paid after 21 days but within 28 days.
