Trips

We have had a busy week in school this week where the children in KS2 have had the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities – there have been the trips to the Weaver Hall Museum for Year 5 and 6 and then Year 3 and 4, the netball and athletics for National Sports Week at The Winsford Academy and also a whole variety of workshops for a few of the KS2 children at The Winsford Academy also.

I have heard so many lovely reports from the children about the things that have inspired or challenged them over the days out and in equal measure, many lovely reports about their fabulous behaviour whilst out representing the school. Thank you to all involved in making these trips so successful.

Delamere Street Festival

We are very much looking forward to the return of Delamere Street Festival tomorrow, the first one since 2019. The street festival is organised by St. John’s church and there will be a whole variety of wonderful activities and performances during the course of the day. The festival will begin with a school’s parade along Delamere Street followed by school performances – please come along to see our reception children performing a dance! There are street stalls, bands performing, a choir festival, hog roast, cream teas and an art exhibition to name a few. The festival starts at 11am with a parade along the road closure that is in place just past Tescos and down to the church and finishes at 5pm. We look forward to seeing you there for a fun filled family day!

Family Film Night

St. John’s church are holding another of their successful Family Film Nights this weekend on Sunday 26th June. Please pop along to the church hall for a 4.30pm start of The Greatest Showman. Entry is free and hot dogs, popcorn and drink will be provided.

#WakeUpWednesday

Some 73 million people watched the League of Legends 2021 World Championship Final – which, for context, is around three-quarters of the total audience for that year’s NFL Super Bowl. So esports is demonstrably growing in popularity and credibility – in fact, video gaming will feature in next month’s Commonwealth Games as a pilot scheme, with a view to becoming a full medal event for 2026.

If we’re to see future generations of youngsters being encouraged to become esports competitors (instead of, say, footballers, swimmers or cricketers), then parents, carers and teachers will be required to become familiar with the possible pitfalls. National Online Safety’s #WakeUpWednesday guide this week brings you the need-to-know basics of professional esports.

Mid-Day Assistant

We are looking for a new mid-day assistant to join our lovely team from September, Monday to Friday from 12pm – 1pm in term time only.

We would like someone who will:

  • supervise pupils whilst eating and playing;
  • help prepare the eating space for lunch and for lessons after;
  • ensure the safety and behaviour of the pupils in accordance with school policies;
  • arrange indoor and outdoor activities;
  • enjoy working with children;
  • be a team player.

Full training will be given.

If you are interested in this role, please contact Mrs McFarland on admin@overstjohns.cheshire.sch.uk for a copy of the application pack.

School Dinners

School dinners cost £2.34 per day, £11.70 per week. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free meals as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme.  Dinner money must be paid in advance via School Spider.

If you are in receipt of benefits and think that you may be entitled to free school meals, please click here for more information and support and how to apply. It is very important to apply for free school meals whatever year your child is in, even if you receive the UIFSM in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as the school receives a sum of extra money to further help support your child and their education.

Absence during Term Time

Please may I remind you that schools are not allowed to authorise pupil holidays in term time. Any child going on holiday in term time will receive an unauthorised absence. Our registers are regularly checked by the Education Welfare Service and parents may be issued with a fine from the Local Authority for unauthorised absence, which is currently £60 per child, per parent and this rises to £120 if paid after 21 days but within 28 days.
