Head Teacher Blog: Friday 25th March 2022

Date: 25th Mar 2022 @ 10:18am

This morning we were privileged to have Collective Worship led for us by Delamere class on their Christian value of compassion. It was a beautiful Collective Worship as the children read, acted and sang with confidence whilst inspiring us all to show more compassion in our daily lives. We particularly liked their many suggestions as to the ways in which we can show compassion to others and we really liked their compassion glasses too!

Summer Uniform

As we come to the end of the Spring Term next Friday and the weather is getting warmer, I know that many of you will be thinking about summer uniforms for next term. Please may I take this opportunity to remind you of the options for a summer uniform as detailed in our uniform policy, which is available on our website. School uniform consists of:

  • Light blue polo shirt
  • Blue school sweatshirt or cardigan
  • Grey skirt or grey trousers
  • Sensible black shoes (not trainers) which are flat and offer support, Velcro fastenings are ideal
  • Grey or white socks, grey tights
  • Blue/ white checked summer dress or grey shorts in the summer

Shadow Art Work

We were recently invited to take part in a pop up art exhibition on the town centre as part of an international festival. The invitation to get involved came from Winsford’s French twin town; Deuil-la-barre, where such events, known as La Grande Lessive, are held. Art work, created by the local community was to be hung on a clothes line using clothes pegs to create a promenade of art for people in Winsford to enjoy throughout the day of Wednesday 23rd March with the theme of ‘Casting Shadows.’ Please see the following link for some examples of the work that some of our children did: Shadow Art Work

St. John’s Family Film Night

St. John’s church is holding another Family Film Night this weekend on Sunday with a showing of The Mitchells vs. The Machines. There is no cost to this – please see the flyer attached below for more details.

Easter Holiday Activities

There are a number of different activities for children to get involved with over the Easter holidays from a number of different providers.

The first set are being run by New Images. They are running Play Days over 3 days and 2 twilight sessions - these sessions are for 8 - 11 year olds and offer a healthy lunch or tea.

They have teamed with Cross Hatch who are delivering two very exciting Family Craft Fun sessions in Bottle Art and Pottery.

Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment, all the information you need is included in the attached posters below.

The second set are being run by Cheshire West and Chester Council, who are pleased to announce that the Holiday Activities and Food programme (HAF), which has provided healthy food and enriching activities to disadvantaged children since 2018, will continue across the borough in 2022.

Their programme will cover the Easter, summer and Christmas holidays in 2022 and as well as the general offer, they will also have additional support for children and young people identified as having special educational needs and disabilities.

The Holiday Activities and Food Programme enables children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) to access healthy food and to take part in fun activities over the school holiday periods. The programme is funded by the Department for Education (DfE).

The attached flyer details provision that is taking place across the borough during the Easter holidays, sessions are free and parents should book as directed on the flyer for each of the providers

#WakeUpWednesday

Financial Fraud Action estimates that in the UK, a financial scam is committed every 15 seconds. Some of these dishonest schemes continue to take the traditional route through our letterboxes or onto our doorsteps but an increasing majority now target that commanding gateway to our attention that’s with us throughout our waking hours: our phone.

From bogus bank personnel to counterfeit couriers, scammers now adopt a whole gallery of convincing aliases from behind a keyboard. In this week’s #WakeUpWednesday guide, National Online Safety profile some of the most frequent attempted cons, highlight ways to avoid them and suggest what to do if you or someone in your family does inadvertently fall foul of a phone scam.

School Dinners

School dinners cost £2.34 per day, £11.70 per week. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 receive free meals as part of the government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) scheme.  Dinner money must be paid in advance via School Spider.

If you are in receipt of benefits and think that you may be entitled to free school meals, please click here for more information and support and how to apply. It is very important to apply for free school meals whatever year your child is in, even if you receive the UIFSM in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, as the school receives a sum of extra money to further help support your child and their education.

Absence during Term Time

Please may I remind you that schools are not allowed to authorise pupil holidays in term time. Any child going on holiday in term time will receive an unauthorised absence. Our registers are regularly checked by the Education Welfare Service and parents may be issued with a fine from the Local Authority for unauthorised absence, which is currently £60 per child, per parent and this rises to £120 if paid after 21 days but within 28 days.
