Hello everyone!

We hope that you’re all well.  What glorious weather we are having! It's so lovely to see some sunshine again. The perfect time go outside and try out some of the Sport's Week Challenges.  Take a look here for the daily challenges

In our Year 1 bubble at school, we tried out the ‘Tap Tennis’ and the ‘Cross the River’ challenges.  We had so much fun and even had a go at beating our own times.  Please do let us know how you get on.

We have been sharing the story of The Colour Monster in school this week which is all about a little monster whose emotions are all mixed up.  It’s a gorgeous story and one you may wish to share too.  We have described the monster and aimed to use ‘and’ and ‘because’ in our sentences too.  One child wrote

‘The monster is feeling sad because he is stuck in lockdown and wants to see his friends’.

Hopefully he’ll be able to see his friends soon!  Here is the link so you can take a look at the story too.

If you’re looking for some fun reading activities to take part in then why not sign up for this year’s summer reading challenge. This year it is called the Silly Squad.  We have taken a look at it in school and it looks great!  You can sign up by following this link Sillysquad.org.uk – it gives you a chance to get rewards, play games and earn badges as you discover new books over the summer. There is a Home Zone full of useful information for parents and carers too.  We can’t wait to hear who takes part.

This time away from school has affected many of us in different ways and looking after our mental health is high on the agenda.  The NHS have produced some lovely resources that you might find useful to work through.  They are attached at the bottom of the blog.  In school we have talked a lot about our mental health and discussed our mixed emotions.  The children shared some of the things that they do to help them when they are feeling worried or sad – they ranged from going on family walks, splashing in the paddling pools to singing and dancing in the rain!  We decided that it doesn’t matter how silly it sounds, the most important thing is to do something that makes you feel better.  In our house that usually involves some kind of dance.  Our most recent challenge was to improve our tap dancing skills!

We miss you all very much and look forward to hearing from you.  Keep in touch and know that we are thinking about each and every one of you.
