Another busy and positive week in Years 4 and 5, with the children continuing to show enthusiasm, teamwork and curiosity in their learning. It has been lovely to see them supporting one another and letting their light shine through effort, kindness and determination.

English – Exploring Leaflets

In English, we have been examining the key features of a leaflet, preparing us to plan and write our own. The children focused on how information is organised clearly to help the reader understand.

We explored:

  • Infographic text to present information visually
  • glossary to explain tricky vocabulary
  • Clear titles and subheadings
  • Rhetorical questions to engage the reader

The children used their retrieval skills to remember and identify these features, showing great focus and teamwork during discussions. Their confidence is growing as they begin to plan their own leaflets.

Maths – Measuring Angles

In Maths, we have been building on our shape work by learning about different types of angles. The children learned how to identify and measure angles using a protractor.

This was a little tricky at first, but they showed excellent perseverance and didn’t give up. By working carefully and helping one another, they became much more confident—and were very proud of their progress. A great example of shining through resilience!

Science – Comparing Life Cycles

In Science, we continued our learning about life cyclesThis week, the children researched the life cycle of a bird and then compared it to the life cycle of a mammal, which we studied last week.

They noticed similarities and differences, such as how animals grow, reproduce and change over time. The children asked thoughtful questions and showed great curiosity about the living world.

PE – Javelin Fun

There has been lots of energy and excitement in PE as the children practised javelin throwing in preparation for Sports Day. They worked on throwing technique, accuracy and safety, while cheering each other on.

It was fantastic to see such positive encouragement and teamwork, making these sessions both fun and inclusive.

Keeping Safe – Canal Trust Visit

We were also very lucky to have a visit from the Canal Trust, who came to talk to the children about water safety. The children did a brilliant job spotting possible dangers near water and discussing how to stay safe. They listened carefully, shared sensible ideas and showed how responsible they can be, an important life skill and another way their light shone this week.

History - Lindisfarne

In History this week, the children have been learning all about the Vikings and their raid on Lindisfarne. They discovered why Lindisfarne was an important target and what made the attack so surprising. The class enjoyed imagining what life might have been like during this time and shared some brilliant ideas and questions.

RE – Compassion UK

In RE, we have been exploring the value of the Christian charity, 'Compassion UK'. The children learned why Christians believe it is important to share the world’s resources fairly. We talked about reallife ways people can help others and show kindness. The children showed thoughtfulness and empathy, shining their light by caring about the needs of others.

PE - Dance

In PE, the children have continued developing their breakdancing skills. They practised different moves and worked in groups to combine them into their own dance routines. There was lots of teamwork, encouragement and creativity throughout the lesson. The children truly let their light shine by supporting one another and performing with confidence and pride.

Well done to Years 4 and 5 for another good week of learning. We look forward to another exciting week ahead! Don't forget we have Monday off!🌟 Thank you for your continued support - it really helps our children shine! 🌟

Quick HomeLearning Reminders

A few regular routines make a big difference to your child’s learning.

📚 Reading

Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.

✖️ Times Tables

Regular timestable practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well.

✏️ Spellings

Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Skelley and Miss Reid
