Linmere Class Blog 03.07.26

This week, our Year 4 and 5 children have certainly been letting their light shine through their creativity, determination and enthusiasm across the curriculum.

English:

In English, we have continued preparing for our exciting adventure writing. The children began by designing their own mythical monsters to feature in their stories, and some of the results were incredibly imaginative (and very scary!). To help bring their adventures to life, we explored ambitious vocabulary and practised extending our noun phrases to create vivid descriptions and atmospheric settings. The class have also been busy creating their own imaginative Greek islands, full of mythical creatures and vivid settings. They have used wonderful descriptive language to bring their islands to life. The children have worked hard to make their writing more engaging and are looking forward to putting these skills into action when they begin their final stories.

Maths:

In Maths, we have been learning how to convert between different units of measure. The children showed great mathematical thinking as they spotted patterns and relationships between measures. We also retrieved and applied our prior knowledge of decimals to support our learning, demonstrating how important it is to build upon what we already know. It has been wonderful to see the children letting their light shine through their resilience and problem-solving skills.

Art:

Our Art project has continued to inspire creativity this week. The children had a fantastic time creating nest structures using clay and a range of natural and recycled materials. They carefully considered shape, texture and design, producing some beautiful and unique creations. Their teamwork, imagination and attention to detail really shone through.

PE:

In PE, we were finally able to complete the races that we missed on Sports Day. The children showed great sportsmanship, determination and enthusiasm throughout the activities. The tug of war proved to be a particular favourite, with teams competing fiercely but fairly! It was lovely to see everyone encouraging one another and letting their light shine through both their effort and positive attitudes.

Geography:

In Geography, we have been exploring all the different ways rivers can be used, from swimming to kayaking and more. We also looked at how people can impact rivers, both positively and negatively, and how important it is to take care of these special places. The children showed great curiosity and responsibility, thinking carefully about how their choices can make a difference.

RE:

In RE, we have been learning about empathy and why it matters when discussing different worldviews. The children explored both religious and non-religious perspectives, especially when thinking about tricky ethical dilemmas. They have been fantastic at listening to each other respectfully and recognising that everyone’s view deserves to be heard and understood.

Quick HomeLearning Reminders

A few regular routines make a big difference to your child’s learning.

📚 Reading

Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.

✖️ Times Tables

Regular timestable practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well.

✏️ Spellings

Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend. 🌟
