Linmere Class Blog 13.3.26

Date: 13th Mar 2026 @ 8:04am

Another busy week in Linmere! Our highlight was definitely meeting our class target and earning our reward for following our daily recognition goal. Examples of our targets are staying on task, being respectful and supporting others. Each child needs to reach the target at least twice a day to tick off a letter in the word REWARD. Once all the letters are ticked off, we earn an extra break!

This time, the sunshine was out and the children chose to spend their reward break playing a cooperative game that Mr. Burgess had taught them in PE. It was a lovely way to celebrate their hard work!

Sustainability in Geography: T‑Shirt Shopping Bags
This week in Geography, our Year 4 and 5 pupils put their sustainability learning into action with a creative, hands‑on project. After exploring how we can reduce waste and reuse everyday items, the children transformed old T‑shirts into shopping bags and all without a single stitch!
The children loved seeing their final products, each one unique and practical. It was a brilliant way to show how small changes can help make a big difference to our planet.

📚 English: Exploring The Brilliant Deep
In English, we have started our new text, The Brilliant Deep, a beautifully illustrated book all about the coral reef. The children have been fascinated by the incredible underwater world and the importance of protecting coral ecosystems.
Over the coming weeks, we will be working towards writing our own information leaflets, using the book to inspire factual writing, rich vocabulary, and clear explanations.

➗ Maths: Finishing Our Fractions Unit
This week, we completed our fractions unit. Hooray! Year 4 and 5 have been working hard on:
  • Ordering and comparing fractions
  • Finding quantities of a set
  • Placing fractions accurately on a number line
The children showed great perseverance and confidence—well done everyone!

🔢 Year 4: Working Hard Towards the MTC
All of our Year 4 pupils have been working incredibly hard as they prepare for the upcoming Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). We’ve been exploring patterns within the times tables, spotting links, and using these to strengthen recall. The children have also been playing a range of quick‑fire games designed to build speed and confidence.
Why not ask your child to teach you one of the games at home? They’d love to show you how it works!

Science
This week, the children have been investigating friction and exploring how different surfaces affect movement. They worked brilliantly in teams to test their predictions and record their findings carefully. We also discussed how forces can be both helpful and unhelpful in the real world, sparking lots of thoughtful conversations!

History
In history, we’ve been discovering how the Ancient Greeks governed their city-states. The children were fascinated to learn about democracy and how citizens had their say. They enjoyed comparing Greek systems of rule with how decisions are made today.

RE
In RE, our focus has been on Humanism and the idea of the Golden Rule. The class reflected on what it means to “treat others as you would like to be treated” and shared some brilliant ideas. Children then created our own set of rules inspired by this important principle.

PE
PE has been full of energy as pupils used their gymnastics skills to create their own sequences. They worked hard to include the forward and backward rolls they’ve been practising over the past few weeks. It was wonderful to see them supporting one another and taking real pride in their routines.

British Values
As part of our work on British Values, we explored the concept of tolerance. The children shared thoughtful examples of how we can show tolerance in our classroom and beyond. Together, we created our very own Class Tolerance Charter, which is now proudly displayed.

🎻🏑A Thank you to other Teaching Staff
We are very lucky to have other teachers work with the children throughout the week:
  • Mrs Riley has been teaching French
  • Mr. Dufty, Mrs Steele and Mrs Starsiak have supported us in class.
  • Mr Burgess has been teaching hockey in PE
  • Year 5 have continued their violin lessons
The children have thoroughly enjoyed these sessions and the variety they bring to our learning week.

🌟 Quick Home‑Learning Reminders

A few regular routines make a big difference to your child’s learning.

📚 Reading

Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.

✖️ Times Tables

Regular times‑table practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well.

✏️ Spellings

Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom

Have a great week everyone! 🌿✨
