It has been another busy and positive week in Years 4 and 5, with the children continuing to work hard, support one another and let their light shine through their efforts and enthusiasm.
English – Extending Our Sentences
In English, we have been working hard to extend our sentences using a range of grammatical features—wow, it's been a lot to remember!
The children have been using:
- Fronted adverbials
- Expanded noun phrases
- Adverbs
It has been fantastic to see them trying to include all of these in their writing. Their confidence is growing, and they are beginning to create more detailed and engaging sentences.
Maths – Introduction to Statistics
In Maths, we have begun our new topic on Statistics. The children have been learning how to read and interpret a variety of charts and tables. They have approached this with great focus, carefully looking at the information presented and answering questions about what they can see.
Science – Life Cycle of a Plant
In Science, we have continued exploring the life cycle of a plant, looking closely at the characteristics at each stage. The children showed a good understanding of how plants grow and change, and they were able to discuss each stage with increasing confidence.
Music – Creating Our Own Soundtracks
In Music, we have continued exploring music linked to films. The children enjoyed creating their own exciting musical pieces to match different scenes, thinking about how sound can create mood and atmosphere. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and teamwork shine through in these sessions.
PE – Sports Day Practice
In PE, we have been practising for Sports Day, and the children have shown great promise. Their teamwork, determination and encouragement of one another has been lovely to see.
We are really looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday afternoon (weather dependant) and sharing more of the children’s wonderful learning with you.
RE
In RE this week, we have been introduced to the idea of worldviews and discussed what this means. We explored how people’s beliefs and experiences can shape the way they see the world and what they think is important. The children enjoyed taking part in an activity where they stood in “agree”, “somewhat agree” or “disagree” to different statements, showing confidence in sharing their ideas and letting their own thoughts shine.
Geography
In Geography, we have been learning about physical features and the different courses of rivers. We explored how rivers change from their source to their mouth and identified key features along the way. The children showed great curiosity and excitement as they built on their understanding of how our natural world is shaped.
Music (Year 5 Trip)
On Thursday, Year 5 had a fantastic trip to the Halle Orchestra, where they had the opportunity to play the violin. The children represented the school brilliantly, demonstrating enthusiasm, focus and a willingness to try something new. It was a wonderful experience that really allowed their talents and confidence to shine.
Well done to everyone for another fantastic week - we are very proud of you! 🌟
Quick Home‑Learning Reminders
A few regular routines make a big difference to your child’s learning.
📚 Reading
Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.
✖️ Times Tables
Regular times‑table practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well.
✏️ Spellings
Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom.
