It was so lovely to see so many of you at Parent Consultations this week. We hope you enjoyed looking through the children’s work and seeing all the progress they have made. The children were incredibly proud to share their learning, a truly wonderful moment of letting their light shine.
English – A Humorous Twist!
English has taken a fun and humorous turn this week as we explored how to use puns and alliteration in poetry. The children had great fun playing with words and creating their own funny sentences.
Some of our favourites included:
- “I am not lion, I did eat it all!”
- “Can we paws for a minute before the mane part of the story begins?”
(Don’t worry—we know these aren’t spelling mistakes! The children have been learning how words can be cleverly adapted for effect!)
It has been fantastic to see their creativity and confidence grow as they experimented with language and made each other laugh.
Maths – Diving Deeper into Decimals
In Maths, we have continued our work on decimals, focusing particularly on hundredths. The children have been building on their place value knowledge and using it to solve a range of problems.
They have also had opportunities to problem solve, explaining their thinking and supporting one another when challenges arose. Their perseverance and teamwork have really stood out this week.
Science – Life Cycles
In Science, we have continued exploring life cycles, comparing a range of examples. The children then created their own insect life cycles, making sure to include all the key stages. They showed great care and attention to detail, as well as a growing understanding of how living things change and develop.
PE – Sports Day Practice
In PE, we have been continuing to practise for Sports Day. The children have shown great enthusiasm and teamwork, encouraging each other and working together to improve their skills. Great to see some oldies - egg and spoon race and the sack race!
It has been lovely to see such positive attitudes and support for one another. This is another way the children are letting their light shine through kindness and good sportsmanship.
HappyMinds programme
This week, we also began our HappyMinds programme, where the children started learning about the three parts of the brain and how they work together. We discussed how each part has a different job and helps us think, feel and make choices.
The children also explored simple strategies to use when one part of the brain isn’t working as well as it could, for example, taking a moment to pause, breathe, and reset. These sessions are helping children to better understand themselves and support one another, building a calm and caring classroom where everyone can thrive and let their light shine
History – Alfred the Great
In our first history lesson, we explored what made Alfred the Great such a successful ruler and the important things he created to protect his kingdom. The children looked at key events like the Battle of Edington and learned about burhs and the Danelaw, using quotes to investigate what happened. It was wonderful to see pupils explaining their thinking clearly and confidently.
History – Life in Danelaw England
In our second lesson, we learned about what life was like for Vikings living in Danelaw England. The class explored longhouses, farming and trade, and thought carefully about how people lived and worked together in the past. The children shared their ideas thoughtfully and showed great curiosity, allowing their interest in history to shine through.
Quick Home‑Learning Reminders
A few regular routines make a big difference to your child’s learning.
📚 Reading
Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.
✖️ Times Tables
Regular times‑table practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well.
✏️ Spellings
Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom.
Have a lovely half term,
Mrs Skelley and Miss Reid
