It has been another busy and engaging week in Years 4 and 5, with the children continuing to show enthusiasm, resilience and teamwork in their learning. It has been wonderful to see them letting their light shine through thoughtful ideas, careful work and support for one another.

English – Exploring Greek Myths

In English, we have continued our work on Greek Myths, with a particular focus on recalling key parts of a text and understanding the correct tenses to use when retelling stories. The children worked hard to remember important details and sequence events accurately, showing growing confidence in both reading and writing. It has been lovely to see them sharing ideas and helping each other to improve their storytelling. The children have also explored show, not tell sentences to describe Odysseus as an explorer, using exciting vocabulary and powerful descriptions to reveal his character.
They impressed us by bringing Odysseus to life through their writing.

Maths – Applying Our Statistics Skills

In Maths, we have been exploring two-way tables and timetables, learning how to read and interpret information carefully. The children are becoming more confident in understanding how data is organised, and we will soon be applying these newly learnt statistics skills in our Science lessons to help display and interpret data.

Science – Life Cycles and Asexual Reproduction

In Science, we have continued our work on life cycles and reproduction in both humans and plants. This week, the children took part in a hands-on activity by taking cuttings from a Buddleia plant, hoping to grow new plants through asexual reproduction. We are keeping our fingers crossed and are excited to see if our cuttings begin to grow! This practical experience has really helped the children understand how new plants can develop without seeds.

Sports Day and Big Blue Day

It was a shame that we had to cancel the afternoon of Sports Day, but the children still had a fantastic morning taking part in a range of well-being activities. They enjoyed nerf target practice, Just Dance, long jump skills, ping pong, archery and table tennis! There was something for everyone!

The children showed great enthusiasm, teamwork and encouragement towards one another, and were a real credit to the class. We are hoping to find another opportunity to complete the races during our PE lessons as a class

It was also wonderful to see so many children dressed in blue for Big Blue Day. This special day encouraged us to think about our planet and how we can look after it. The children shared thoughtful ideas about how we can all make small changes to help the environment. Another fabulous way they are learning to let their light shine in the wider world.

Geography- Rivers

In Geography, we have been learning about the world’s longest rivers and locating them on a map. The children showed great curiosity as they discovered where these rivers are found across different continents. They are becoming much more confident in using maps and recognising key geographical features.

RE- Worldviews

In RE, we have been exploring worldviews and thinking carefully about who and what influences our own beliefs and values. The children created thoughtful posters to show these influences, from family and friends to experiences and beliefs. They also reflected on how our worldviews may be similar or different to others, showing kindness and respect as they shared their ideas.

Quick HomeLearning Reminders

A few regular routines make a big difference to your child’s learning.

📚 Reading

Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.

✖️ Times Tables

Regular timestable practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well.

✏️ Spellings

Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom.
