🌱 A Look Back at the Week’s Learning 🌱
This week, Year 4 and 5 pupils enjoyed a range of exciting learning experiences across the curriculum. Here’s a snapshot of what your child explored during the week.
✍️ English – Poetry: Performing and Creating
Our English focus was poetry. Children read, performed and wrote their own poems inspired by the world around them. They thought deeply about the beauty of our planet, while also questioning whether humans are damaging it.
Through performance activities, pupils worked on expression, tone, and confidence. Their writing encouraged creativity, thoughtful language choices, and personal reflection.
➗ Maths – Fractions
The children built on their fraction knowledge by focusing on the addition and subtraction of fractions. A key part of this learning was recalling and using equivalent fractions, particularly when working with fractions that had different denominators.
Pupils were encouraged to explain their reasoning clearly and apply their understanding to a range of problem‑solving tasks.
🌍 Geography – Sustainability and Fast Fashion
In geography, we began an important unit on sustainability, with a particular focus on fast fashion. Pupils explored the advantages and disadvantages of fast fashion and they were encouraged to form their own opinions and reflect on whether their views changed as they learned more.
Science
We have begun our new unit on forces in Science, by revising pushes and pulls and exploring how they make objects move. The children have been identifying the difference between contact forces, where objects need to touch, and non-contact forces, such as gravity, which act from a distance.
👕 Upcycling Activity
As part of our sustainability learning, children were reminded to bring in an old T‑shirt for an upcoming upcycling activity before MONDAY 9th MARCH. They will be transforming their T‑shirts into reusable shopping bags, linking perfectly with our geography work.
🔥 Fire Safety Talk – Year 5
Year 5 pupils also took part in a Fire Safety talk delivered by the local Fire and Rescue Service. The session was engaging and informative, helping children to understand how to stay safe both at home and in the community.
During the talk, pupils learned about:
- Common causes of fires in the home
- How to reduce risks and keep themselves safe
- What to do in the event of a fire
- The importance of smoke alarms
- How and when to call the emergency services
The children listened attentively and asked thoughtful questions, showing a strong awareness of personal responsibility and safety. We would like to thank the Fire and Rescue Service for taking the time to visit our school and deliver such an important and memorable session.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We are looking forward to continuing a half term full of creativity, curiosity and meaningful learning!
Have a great week everyone! 🌿✨
