What a busy week! How have we got to the end of January!

Art
This week in Art, we continued exploring pattern, focusing specifically on tessellated shapes. The children designed their own unique shapes and then used them to create repeating tessellations. They really enjoyed seeing how a single shape could fit together to form a continuous pattern. Please see attached picture.

As we move into our next phase of the unit, we will be creating mixed‑media collages inspired by the patterns we’ve been studying. From Monday, we would be very grateful if families could send in any suitable collage materials—for example:

  • magazines
  • coloured paper
  • fabric scraps
  • clean packaging
  • textured paper (e.g., foil, tissue paper)
Nothing special needs to be purchased; recycled and repurposed materials are perfect. Thank you for your support.

Maths
In Maths, we have moved on to fractions, beginning with comparing and ordering fractions and then looking at investigations into equivalent fractions. The children have been using the bar model to represent and compare different fractions, helping them build a clear visual understanding of how fractions relate to one another. See pictures attached.
The Year 4 children have been working incredibly hard to learn their times tables, and we’re so proud of the effort they’re putting in. This week, Mrs. Skelley taught them a fun game they can also play at home to help with quick recall. We will let them explain how to play it! Another game you could play involves a pack of cards! You flip two cards over, multiply the numbers together and see who can call out the answer first! It’s a simple, engaging way to build confidence and speed with their times tables and the children absolutely loved it!

English
In English, the children have been researching fascinating facts about the 1969 moon landing. They were amazed to learn about the astronauts, the Apollo 11 mission and what it was like to take those famous first steps on the Moon. Using the information they gathered, the class created their own comic strips to retell this historic event in a fun and engaging way. You might like to ask your child what new facts they discovered!

Music
In Music, the children have been listening to and analysing different pieces of space‑themed music, discussing how composers use instruments, tempo and dynamics to create atmosphere.
Our Year 5 pupils have also been busy developing their musical skills and are becoming increasingly confident in their performance.

🌟 Quick Home‑Learning Reminders

A few regular routines make a big difference to your child’s learning.

📚 Reading

Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.

✖️ Times Tables

Regular times‑table practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well.

✏️ Spellings

Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom.

A reminder to book your Parents’ Evening appointment for Tuesday 10th February or Wednesday 11th February.

We’re also delighted to welcome Miss Reid to Linmere. She’s excited about the topics ahead and is very much looking forward to working with all the children.

Thank you for your continued support.
Have a good weekend.
