Linmere Class Blog: Friday 10th October 2025
Date: 8th Oct 2025 @ 4:16pm
This week, we’ve been sharpening our mathematical thinking by exploring how to calculate efficiently using known facts. Children have been challenged to spot patterns, make connections, and explain their reasoning - all skills that build confidence and fluency. Look out for the Square Facts booklet coming home soon, which will help your child continue practising these key facts in fun and engaging ways.
✉️ English
In English, we’ve stepped into the world of persuasive writing. After exploring the features of a persuasive letter, pupils wrote heartfelt appeals to an art gallery owner, encouraging them to showcase the vibrant work of Jean-Michel Basquiat. Emotive language, powerful arguments, and a splash of creativity made these letters extremely persuasive!
📚 Reading Reminder
Please remember to read at least four times a week and log your reading online. Regular reading makes a huge difference to fluency, vocabulary, and confidence. If you’re having any trouble accessing the reading log, get in touch with school and we’ll be happy to resend the link.
💧 Science
Our science lessons have taken us on a journey through the water cycle, following a single droplet of water as it evaporates, condenses, precipitates, and flows. Pupils created brilliant cartoon strips to illustrate this journey, combining scientific understanding with storytelling. Next week, we’re planning to film these strips using our fabulous new iPads.
🎶 Music
Music has been a rhythmic delight as we’ve explored body percussion to accompany poetry. Children experimented with beat, pace, and movement to bring verses to life—clapping, stomping, tapping, and swaying in time. It’s been a joyful way to connect sound and language, and the results have been both expressive and entertaining.
🤸♀️ Gymnastics
Our gymnastics sessions have showcased teamwork, creativity, and physical control. Pupils have choreographed routines that include balances, jumps, unusual shapes, and dynamic ways to move. The emphasis on collaboration and performance has brought out some truly fabulous routines!
In Computing this week, we have continued with our unit on Vector Graphics. The focus for this lesson was looking at how the layering of objects affects the overall image. The children rose to the challenge of creating a vector drawing with a nature theme and came up with a range of images; from toadstools, to flowers, to fairies! Well done to the children for working really well with their partners too.
Art saw some wonderfully atmospheric work as the children used biros, pencils, graphite, charcoal and handwriting pens to create some scenes for our Boudicca work which is shaping up nicely! We can't wait for our final comics to be completed!
We have seen some fabulous work this week and it was really hard to choose our Excellent Examples. However, the ten raffle tickets each this week have gone to Matilda, Beautiful and Hudson - great work! Also, we are really pleased to say that Lily E was voted the Worker of the Week this week with an amaxing 6 votes! Well done. Further congratulations go to Hudson who was the winner of our Golden Tin prize this week. Great stuff all round!
Thank you for your continued support at home. Whether it’s practising square facts, discussing persuasive writing, or spotting clouds and puddles on a walk, every little moment helps reinforce the learning we do in school.
Have a wonderful weekend.
