Wow! What a busy week we have had!

As we approach the end of our addition and subtraction unit, the children have been applying their skills to solve problems with confidence. They've explored estimating and used the inverse operation to check their answers. All great strategies for building independence and accuracy in maths.

We're also continuing to build fluency in times tables, which is so important for success across the curriculum. It would be wonderful if you could encourage regular practice at home. Just a few minutes a day can make a big difference!

In English, we've been continuing our work on Viking poetry. The children have written powerful kennings and metaphors, using rich poetic language to describe Viking swords, shields, helmets, and figureheads. Their creativity and vocabulary choices have been fantastic!

Children should be reading at least four times a week at home and recording it on our online reading system. Thank you for your continued support with this, it really helps build fluency and comprehension. Today was the first opportunity for pupils to achieve the orange band on our 'Read the Rainbow' reward scheme. Well done to Beatrice and Daisy in our class for being the first to achieve this.

In Science, we've investigated how sound travels and whether the material it moves through affects the volume. The children have enjoyed experimenting and drawing conclusions from their observations.

Our DT lessons have focused on healthy eating. Using what we've learned about a balanced diet, the children designed and made their own healthy pizza sauce, packed with vegetables, fresh ingredients, and much less salt and sugar than shop-bought versions.

In Music, we've listened to music linked to space, using rhythm and beat to bring words to life. Our Year 5s are also making great progress with their violins. Well done to all!

This week, we’ve taken time to reflect on Remembrance. We explored why we remember, and how Winsford marks the occasion. The children created thoughtful posters to share with the community, showing their understanding and respect.

It was also wonderful to see everyone in their odd socks to mark Anti-Bullying Week. We’ve had some really thoughtful discussions about kindness, respect, and how we can all help make school a safe and happy place for everyone. Thank you for supporting Children in Need. The children looked fantastic in their own clothes today, and it was lovely to see the school come together for such a good cause.

This week in PE, we have been moving to the beat in a very creative way! We introduced a hula hoop dance set to Michael Jackson’s music, which gave the children a chance to explore rhythm, coordination, and teamwork. Watching them find the beat, share ideas, and encourage one another was a joy! There was plenty of laughter and energy in the hall! Alongside this, we’ve been developing our hockey passing skills. Pupils practised controlling the ball, making accurate passes, and working together in small groups. These activities not only build sporting technique but also strengthen communication and collaboration.

We have lots of rewards to celebrate too! Well done to Daisy and Charliotte for their Excellent Examples this week. to Hudson for winning the Friday Golden Tin raffle prize and to the joint winners of our Worker of the Week award - Ashotn, Suzanne and Charlotte. Wow! Well done eveybody!

Thank you for your continued support. It’s been a rich and rewarding few weeks, and we’re so proud of the children’s enthusiasm and progress across all subjects.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Skelley and Mrs Snowdon
