Linmere Class Blog: Friday 19th September 2025

What a fantastic week of learning and creativity it’s been in our classroom! Here's a glimpse into what we've been up to:

๐Ÿ“ English

This week, our budding authors have been crafting fabulous sentences to describe Brooklyn, using fronted adverbials and powerful adjectives to bring their writing to life. From “Beneath the towering skyline…” to “With a burst of colour and noise…”, the children have shown real flair and imagination. We’ve also started building our very own collection of wow words—a treasure trove of vocabulary that will help us write with style and impact. Keep an eye out for some dazzling phrases in our upcoming work and check out our wonderful writing display below.

๐Ÿ“– Reading Reminder

Reading books went home on Monday, and we encourage all children to read at least four times a week. Each reading session should be logged on our online platform (a link was sent out earlier this week). We’ll be checking comments weekly, and children who read consistently can work towards earning a colour of the rainbow—a fun and motivating reward for regular readers!

โœ๏ธ Spelling Reminder

Please continue to support your child with their weekly spellings. We’ve introduced some creative ways to practise, including the ever-popular spelling graffiti! Just a few minutes each day can make a big difference and help build confident, adventurous writers.

๐Ÿ”ข Maths

In maths, we’ve been comparing and ordering numbers with growing confidence. Pupils have been using reasoning language to explain their thinking, with examples like:
“I know 24,321 is greater than 23,999 because it has one more thousand in the thousands column.”
It’s wonderful to see such clear and thoughtful mathematical communication developing!

๐Ÿงช Science

Science has taken a hands-on turn as we explore melting points. Pupils designed their own experiments to test different materials, then carried out investigations and recorded their findings. From chocolate to wax, the results were fascinating—and sometimes a little messy! We loved seeing their scientific thinking in action as they made predictions, observed changes, and discussed their conclusions.

๐ŸŽป Music

A very exciting moment for our Year 5s—they’ve started learning the violin! The enthusiasm in the room was infectious as bows met strings for the first time. We’re already looking forward to their first concert later this year. Mrs Snowdon got a little concert at the end as their teacher couldn't believe what a fabulous job they had done in one lesson - bravo, budding musicians!

๐ŸŽจ Art

This week in Art, we began exploring storytelling through drawing, inspired by the imaginative work of Shaun Tan. Linking with our Roman Britain topic, we used a powerful poem about Boudicca to spark creativity. The children sketched ideas that came into their minds as they listened to the poem—capturing emotion, action, and atmosphere in their drawings.
There are just a few examples of their expressive work below—each one tells a story in its own unique way!

๐Ÿƒ‍โ™€๏ธ PE

We’ve had great fun in PE this week with outdoor activities designed to build teamwork and collaboration. The children worked together brilliantly and showed fantastic sportsmanship. Ask your child which activity was their favourite—you might hear about some exciting moments!

๐ŸŽ‰ Celebrating Success

๐Ÿ‘ Congratulations to Olivia Mc, our Worker of the Week, as voted for by her peers! Olivia has earned 30 raffle tickets for her outstanding effort and teamwork. Well done!

๐ŸŒŸ Excellent examples of work this week came from EliseBelle, and Daisy—each receiving 10 raffle tickets for their brilliant contributions. Keep up the amazing work!

Have a fabulous weekend and see you next week!
