Linmere Maths Day

Date: 24th Jun 2018 @ 8:20pm

Friday was maths day in school and in Linmere we had great time learning all about capacity. We began by recapping what capacity means and the units of measurement used. Then it was time to get the water out! The children used their knowledge to help them estimate the capacity of a variety of containers before measuring then accurately to see how close their estimates were.

After break we designed our own magic potions - not quite as "easy" as it sounds as there were certain criteria that their recipe had to meet e.g. only 6 ingredients, the ingredients had to add up to a certain amount and no ingredient to be equal to 100ml. The children were very inventive and I was just glad I didn't have to actually sample any of the potions!

The afternoon was spent on some reasoning questions - could we find ways to make certain amounts of liquid using only 3 different sized bottles. Some of the amounts proved to be very tricky but I was really pleased with how the children worked together to try and find the solution and persevered to find the answers. Well done everyone!
