Linmere Weekly Blog 6th February

Date: 6th Feb 2026 @ 8:34am

What a busy week we’ve had in Linmere!

What have we been up to?

English
This week in English, we’ve continued our exciting work on Neil Armstrong and Chris Hadfield as we prepare to write our own biographies. The children have been focusing on using main and subordinate clauses to make their writing richer and more engaging. They’ve shown fantastic enthusiasm as they explore the lives of these remarkable astronauts!

Maths
In maths, the children have been embedding their understanding of equivalent fractions and fractions greater than 1. These can be tricky concepts, but the children have shown brilliant perseverance and are making excellent progress. We’re incredibly proud of how well they’re doing!

Art
In art, we’ve been working on creating repeated collage patterns. The children have been wonderfully creative, and we’re looking forward to displaying their work in the classroom! Hopefully, you’ll be able to spot your child’s masterpiece during Parents’ Evening!

PSHCE
In PSHCE, we have completed our First Aid unit. This week, the children revisited and retrieved all of the key skills and knowledge they’ve learned. It’s been great to see how confident and responsible they’ve become. We also looked at CPR and completed a quiz to test our knowledge! We passed with flying colours!

PE

We have continued to develop our football and netball skills, focusing on controlling the ball effectively and making accurate, well‑timed passes.

Science
In Science this week, the children have been exploring the planets in our solar system and learning about how the Earth moves. They investigated rotation (which gives us day and night) and revolution (which gives us the seasons), using models and practical activities to help them understand these big ideas.

RE
In RE, we have been learning about the fourth pillar of Islam, Sawm (fasting). This has linked nicely with the upcoming start of Ramadan, helping the children to understand why this time is so important for Muslims and how it is observed with reflection, self-control, and kindness.

History
In History, we have learnt about Modern Greece and how it links to Ancient Greece. In the upcoming weeks, the children will discover how Ancient Greek ideas have shaped the world we live in today, from democracy to sport, and how these influences can still be seen in Greece and beyond.

🌟 Quick Home‑Learning Reminders

A few regular routines make a big difference to your child’s learning.

📚 Reading

Please aim for four reading sessions each week. Short, relaxed reads are perfect.

✖️ Times Tables

Regular times‑table practice helps build confidence. A few minutes each day works well.

✏️ Spellings

Practicing the spellings and meanings at home really supports them in the classroom.

A reminder to book your Parents’ Evening appointment for Tuesday 10th February or Wednesday 11th February.

Have a fantastic weekend.
