Exciting News for Year 4 and 5!
We were delighted to welcome Mrs. Andrews into our classroom earlier this week. She has thoroughly enjoyed meeting all the children and is very much looking forward to teaching them on Thursdays and Fridays in the New Year.
In the meantime, Mrs. Andrews will be joining us a few times before Christmas to get to know the children and settle into our routines. We’re thrilled to have her as part of the Linmere team!
English
This week, we explored character descriptions in detail, focusing on how our choice of words can bring characters to life. The children worked hard to use precise and descriptive language to make their writing more engaging.
Maths
In maths, we investigated patterns in the 4, 8, 3, and 6 times tables. The children also applied these patterns to solve a range of problem-solving tasks, strengthening their multiplication skills and logical thinking.
Science
Our science lessons were all about sound! We designed an investigation to measure decibel levels as we moved further away from a constant sound source. After collecting data, the children drew conclusions and discussed what their findings tell us about how sound travels.
Design & Technology (DT)
We looked at healthy alternatives for pizza dough, including an exciting option made with Greek yogurt! Next week, we’re hoping to make the pizzas, so please let us know if your child has any allergies.
History
Our History work drew to a close this week as we found out how important salt was to the Romans - did you know that Roman soldiers sometimes got paid in salt because it was so useful to them? It is said that this is where the word salary comes from because of the Latin word for salt - sal.
RE
This week we began looking at the Good News in the Christmas story and how that looked for Mary, Joseph, the shepherds and the angels - just the thing to start getting us into the Christmas spirit!
Thank you for your continued support and have a lovely weekend.
