N.S.S.W - Year 5/6 Water Polo
Date: 22nd Jun 2016 @ 7:02pm
Another afternoon, another afternoon of sport ! This time we were off to the Winsford Lifestyle Centre for a spot of water polo. The children were a little apprehensive as they had never played water polo before in competition but they were keen and determined to give it maximum effort.
After a short practice of skills, we were thrown into our first match against High Street Primary. We realised straight away that their team were well rehearsed in this game and they even had their headteacher as referee. We lost by a solitary goal after some tremendous defending by Adam and Kade.
Our second game was a very different affair which ending with us beating Darnhall by 3 goals to nil. Will F scored two of these with Harry popping another one in just before the final whistle. Special mentions must go to Harry and Max W for their relentless swimming up and down the wings, trying to be both defenders and attackers at the same time. Our last game of the round robin was against Willow Wood and again we were the victors beating them 1- 0.
A quick count up of the scores showed Over St. John's at the top of the table as High Street had lost their match against Darnhall! We were all thrilled as we thought we had won the competition. Alas that was not to be as the matches had been played very quickly and we still had fifty minutes to go before hometime! The decision was made to play another round of matches .
Despite a gallant effort from our team, we were beaten again by High Street, but this time Darnhall did not come to our rescue and the final scores were High Street 15 points and Over St. John's 13 points. Of course, our children were very gracious in defeat and congratulated High Street on their win.
Well done team on coming second, you were a bunch of super stars!
