NSSW Year 5/6 Mixed Football
Date: 29th Jun 2017 @ 10:25pm
This was the big one! Year 5/6 football is immensly competitive and is played to a very high standard indeed. We took two very excited teams along to The Academy today. Even though the weather was miserable and gloomy, our spirits could not be dampened.
Our blue team played in Group 1 and showed their intent by beating St Chad's B by 6 goals to none. The game was fast and furious and a goal a minute was the scoring rate. A brilliant start! The Blues second game brought them back down to earth and ended as a 1-1 draw with Darnhall A. Next, we faced Wharton, despite many attempts on goal by both teams, it ended in a 0-0 draw.Willow Wood followed and we were a little disappointed to let in a goal. Our last game was against High Street A and we knew we had to win if we were to progress any further in the tournament. Luckily, we found our form and came out as 1-0 victors.
After a tense wait, we learnt that we had come 3rd in the group. We really thought we had a chance of going through to the final but that was not to be on goal difference. Well done The Blues- Rian, Kai, Max Mc, Darcie,Oliver, Joshua, Aaron B and Ben.
Our yellow team consisted of three lads, Kyan, Kaelin and Richard and five girls, Rebecca, Millie, Grace Leah and Ruth. As most schools had only one girl in their squads, our girls put up a sterling performance against mainly boys' teams. We played four matches altogether and really got better with every game. An amazing volley from Richard resulted in a marvellous goal and everyone was delighted! I was so proud watching you all fight for every ball and never giving up. You played with increasing confidence and never once let your heads go down. Well done Yellows!
Another afternoon when St John's children showed excellent skills and behaviour.
