Oakmere- week beginning 11th May

Date: 11th May 2020 @ 10:45am

Hello Oakmere,

How are you all? We hope you are well and making the most of your time at home.

Friday was the 75th anniversary of VE Day- did you do anything to celebrate this day? We made our own bunting and some red, white and blue Chinese lanterns. In the afternoon, we had a socially distanced picnic in our front garden which was fun. We listened to Churchill's speech, observed a 2 minutes silence and later on sang "We'll meet again" with our neighbours.

This weeks theme is animals and we hope you enjoy some of the activities below. Remember, they are just ideas and you may be doing other things which is absolutely fine too.

Reading:

Please continue to read daily. If you need a book to read create an account and select a free ebook from: https//www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/reading-owl/library-page

If you want a challenge- speed read. How many words can you read in one minute? Keep a record and see how you improve over the coming weeks.

Writing:

Perhaps you could write a description of a fictional animal that has just been discovered. Think about what it looks like, where it lives and what it eats. You could even draw a picture to show what this new creature looks like. Or, you could write a set of instructions for how to look after a pet. Remember to include what you need and what you do.

Maths:

Continue to look at the white rose lessons - these follow what we would have been doing in school.

Afternoon activities:

Science:

Take a trip to the zoo- virtually of course! Chester zoo have lots of resources to look at, including a conga song.

Art:

Search for the artist Franz Marc online. Find out who he was and what type of paintings he created. Choose an animal to draw and colour in a similar style to his.

DT:

Get out in the garden and make a big hotel.
