Oakmere 25th June

Date: 25th Jun 2021 @ 7:13pm

We started the week off by celebrating National school sports week with a “pause for play” session. During this time, the children took some time to play a throwing and catching multiplication game.

In maths we moved from time to money. The children have been working on solving money related problems using number lines. We also practiced finding changing change to ensure we always get the right change when paying for items. Any practical work that the children can do at home related to money will really benefit them – perhaps they could add up any “loose change” you have / money in their piggy banks.  Or, if there is something they are saving for they could work out how much more money they need before they can make their purchase.

We are still looking at refugee stories in our English sessions. This week the children have planned and written a letter to a young girl who has fled from a war-torn country. I have to say they have worked incredibly hard on this. We have noticed aa big difference in handwriting and spelling recently too – great work Oakmere!

In art we have focussed on still life drawings and have made sketches and watercolour pictures of peppers. To do this we had to use our observational skills to think about size and shape as well as remembering to use everything we have learnt about shading.

Let’s hope that the weather improves soon and that the sunshine returns.

Have a great weekend.
