Hello Oakmere
Happy New Year to you all. On behalf of all the staff in our class I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for the lovely gifts and cards we received for Christmas. You are very kind.
Even with the snow and ice this week we had such a productive time. We finished off our Geography topic on Climate zones ready to move onto our history topic where w e will start exploring the Bronze Age.
In English we have been doing the groundwork on our new book ‘The Fossil Girl’ by Catherine Brighton. This book looks at the life of Mary Anning one of the earliest fossil hunters and how she made one of the most important pre-historic artefacts ever found. The children have planned a diary entry and will be writing that next week. The children will be tested on their spellings on Tuesday.
In Maths we have moved onto looking at multiplication and division. We have explored arrays and equal amounts. This week we will be looking at the 3 and 6 times table and how knowing one helps with understanding the other. We will also be moving on to learning the seven times table. Please remind your children to play on TTRS at least three times a week. For our year 4 children the link below takes you to a game that is very similar to the multiplication test your child will be taking at the end of the year. The children will have a times table test on Thursday.

In Science we will be carrying out an experiment on the soil around our school (as long as it has defrosted!) and the children will be identifying what we find in the soil in our local area. In Re we are exploring places of Worship and this week we will be looking at Mosques. In PE, the children will be doing Gymnastics with the coach on Tuesday and Netball with me on Wednesday.
We started our new Art topic where we will be exploring the work of Alice Kettle who works with paint and textiles. We had a go at sewing and painting paper on Friday and the children did very well. More importantly nobody suffered from a needle injury!
On Wednesday, the children are encouraged to bring something in for Show and Tell. This must be either something linked to what we are learning or something special they have done outside of school.
Well done to Beautiful for winning the raffle prize.
Have a great week.
Mrs Kelly
