Oakmere Class Blog – End of Week Round-Up!

What a fantastic week we’ve had in Oakmere Class! I am so impressed with the children’s hard work, creativity, and their wonderful sense of fun. It’s been a joy to see them dive into every activity with enthusiasm and curiosity.

PE Fun with the Coaches
Our PE lesson this week was a real highlight! The children had a brilliant time with the visiting coaches, showing off their energy, teamwork, and growing skills. It’s lovely to see their confidence building each week.

All About Me Art – Can You Spot Your Child?
We’ve also been celebrating individuality through our vibrant “All About Me” art pieces. The classroom is now bursting with colour and personality! I’ve attached some photos—can you guess which one is your child’s? They’ve done an amazing job expressing themselves through art.

Petting Zoo Visit – A Wild Adventure!
A huge thank you to our wonderful PTA for organising and funding the incredible petting zoo visit. The children were absolutely thrilled to meet a chameleon, skunk, snake, and even a tarantula! Their excitement was contagious, and it sparked some brilliant questions about animal nutrition and classification. We had some great discussions about carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores—perfect timing for our Science topic!

Looking Ahead to Next Week

Maths
Next week, we’ll be exploring place value—looking at 10 and 100 more or lessordering numbers to 1000, and counting in fifties. We’ll also begin working on the 2x table, so please encourage your child to play on Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) at home to keep those skills sharp!

English
We’ll be diving into Coming to England by Floella Benjamin, a powerful and inspiring story. Our focus will be on identifying and using noun phrases, prepositions, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives to build strong sentences. We’ll also be revisiting last year’s learning to ensure everyone understands what makes a great sentence.
📚 Reading books and folders will be coming home on Monday—please make sure they come back to school every day, as we read daily in class.
📝 Spelling test will be the following Monday.

Science
We’ll continue learning about how humans and animals get nutrition from food. The petting zoo visit gave us a brilliant head start—thank you again to the PTA!

RE
Our RE topic is all about the Bible as an ancient sacred text. We’ll be exploring who wrote it, why it was written, and how it’s organised.

French
Taught by Mrs Riley thisTuesday morning—the children are really enjoying learning a new language!

PE
We’re lucky to have coaches coming in to teach cricket skills and lead outdoor adventure activities—lots of fun and fresh air ahead!

History
Our journey into the world of the Maya civilisation continues. Last week, we learned about John Lloyd Stephens and Frederick Catherwood, who studied the archaeological site of Copán in 1839. This week, we’ll be learning that the Maya lived in Mesoamerica around 300 BC, and we’ll be locating the city of Chichen Itza on a map.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
