Year 3/4 End of Week Blog
What a fantastic end to the half term! It has certainly been a very busy few weeks, and the children have worked incredibly hard. They all deserve a well‑earned break with plenty of rest and relaxation.
A big thank you to all parents and carers who attended our Pupil Consultation meetings. It is always such a joy to talk about the children’s progress and share the wonderful things they have achieved.
Children’s Mental Health Week
As part of Children’s Mental Health Week, we created our own “places” by designing desert island maps. The children then added things they would want with them to make their perfect place. These included family members, pets, homes, boats, hot tubs, footballs and more! The maps were absolutely gorgeous, and the children really enjoyed discussing the importance of having a place where we feel safe, loved and accepted for who we are. have a look at the lovely pictures below.
We also celebrated our outfits and talked about how they made us feel. Some children came in fluffy pyjamas because they felt safe, warm and cosy, while others came in sports kits and favourite outfits because they made them feel happy
Looking Ahead to Next Week
Maths
We will be learning about area, using squared paper to calculate the area of rectangle shapes. The children have been working brilliantly on their 7 times table, and we will continue this after the half term.
A huge well done to our TTRS winners: Poppy, Reuben and Archie!
English
Next week the children will be writing a letter to Winter’s Child, explaining why he must return home. This will involve persuasive writing, using a wide range of adjectives, conjunctions and adverbs to strengthen their arguments. The children will also be practising their editing skills and using our lovely new dictionaries to correct spellings.
Congratulations to Olivia and Albie for achieving their reading certificates!
Science
In Science, we will be exploring patterns of shadows and observing how they change when the light source is moved. After completing their experiments, the children will be encouraged to form a hypothesis that we can test together.
History
We will continue our learning about the Stone Age, discovering how Paleolithic people lived as hunter‑gatherers and survived by using what they could find in their environment.
RE
Our new RE topic will focus on Islam. We will be exploring the question: What do Muslims believe happened on ‘The Night of Power’, and how do they worship?
Art
In Art, we will be starting our final piece inspired by the work of Henri Matisse. The children will be creating a colourful collage inspired by objects and shapes found in our classroom.
French & Computing
These subjects continue to be taught by Mrs Riley every Tuesday morning.
Reminders
- Please remember to send your child’s PE kit on Monday.
- As we will be going outside, warm layers are recommended.
- For children who wear tights, a spare pair of socks in the PE bag is very helpful.
Congratulations to Olive, our raffle ticket winner this week!
Have a wonderful, restful half term break.
