🌟 Oakmere Blog – Looking Ahead to Next Week

What a busy and exciting week we’ve just had! With Anti-Bullying Week, Remembrance Day, Odd Sock Day, and dressing up for Children in Need, the classroom has been full of colour, conversation, and creativity. The children particularly loved learning about the role of animals in the war. Using our lovely new iPads, they researched fascinating facts and wrote about what they discovered – some of the stories they found were truly inspiring!

✏️ English

Next week in English, we’ll be exploring fronted adverbials. The children will practise using a variety of synonyms to make their sentences more interesting and lively. These sentences will then be woven into direct speech, imagining what it was like when Floella first met her classmates. Along the way, we’ll revisit the rules of punctuating direct speech. Don’t forget to keep practising your spellings at home – and a huge well done to those spelling stars who scored eight out of eight this week!

🔢 Maths

In maths, we’re continuing to strengthen our multiplication and division skills. This week, the focus is on the 4× table. A handy trick is “doubling and doubling” to work it out quickly. The children will also be learning how to multiply a three-digit number by a two-digit number using the column method. Everyone will be bringing home their square table booklet to practise. Once completed, they can bring it back to school to share their hard work.

🪨 Science

Our science topic on rocks continues. Next week, we’ll investigate weathering and how rocks are eroded over time. We’ll also explore what soils are made from and look closely at the different materials we can find in soil samples. It’s going to be a very hands-on week!

🙏 RE

In RE, we’ll be learning about how Hindu gods represent different aspects of the one god, Brahman. The children will discover how Brahman is believed to be present in everything, and how the many forms of Hindu gods reflect this belief.

🌍 Geography

We’re starting a brand-new topic in geography: Are all settlements the same? The children will learn about different types of settlements, including linear, nucleus, and dispersed. We’ll then discuss which type of settlement Winsford is – a great chance to connect our learning to the local area.

🎉 Celebrations

A big congratulations to Sebastian, who has won our raffle prize two weeks in a row! What a lucky streak!

Have a wonderful weekend, Oakmere families – we’re looking forward to another week of learning, exploring, and celebrating together.
