Oakmere Class Blog 14.3.25

Date: 14th Mar 2025 @ 4:00pm

Hello Oakmere

We have had quite a sporty time this week with a double PE lesson on Tuesday and an extra dance session on Thursday with the teacher from Dance House.  The children had a great time and impressed us all with how quick they picked up the routine. We sent out the leaflet for this dance company at the beginning of the week if you are interested. All this made up for the change in the weather and the damp playtimes we had this week.

English

In English, we started our new book looking at what home means to us and the variety of homes people choose to live in.  Next week the children will write two paragraphs comparing the positive and negative aspects of life for refugees living in camps. The Y4 children will use fronted adverbials with commas to introduce paragraphs. The Y3 will include adverbs of time.

Our spellings this week are couple, courage, encourage, cousin, double, touch, trouble and young

Maths

In maths we continue to look at fractions and how to work they out.  Some of the children really struggled with this and even when we did it with cutting up post-its and sharing out apples they found it tricky.  Fractions is one of those areas of maths where the better you are at the times table the easier you will find it.  The children will be using number lines to help understand the value of fractions. We will continue to work on unit and non-unit fractions. We continue to work on the nine times table.

9 Times Table Song (Shivers by Ed Sheeran) - YouTube

Well done to Lily-Amelia, Sebastian and Archie for being our TTRS Champions and Sebastian, Daisy, Thea, Charlotte and Belle for getting forty out of forty on their times table test.

Science

Unfortunately, the weather was not with us this week and we didn’t have enough sun for our shadow experiment outside instead we looked at how moving the source of light effected the shadow.  We sent up our torches and measured the shadow cast as the light moves nearer.  We then looked at our results and made several good deductions. We will be finishing off the investigation next week and hopefully having a little mini experiment on the movement of shadows outside.

Geography

We will be using the atlases to find the United States of America and explore why it is called the united states.  We will be looking at some of the outstanding features of USA and exploring its climate.

PE

In PE, the children will be working on their dance skills with the PE coach. In my PE lesson we will continue to work on our handball skills. As we will be going outside more don’t forget to include jogging pants and a warm top.

RE

We are going to look at the story of Jesus rescuing the 10 lepers.  We will look at the leapers reaction to the miracle and what lessons the story contains about love and forgiveness.

DT

We are moving onto a new topic in DT this week where we are going to be looking at making a small keepsake box.  The children will be looking at small boxes and discussing how they are made.  We will then take them apart to look at shape/net of the box.  If you have a small box, for example Oxo box, toothpaste box, small food package etc, and you would not mind never seeing again in one piece please send them in.  The more for the children to take apart the merrier.

Music

This week we are going to continue our work on the banana song.  The children will be looking at notations and beats.

Computing and French

Mrs Riley will be teaching the children these subjects on a Tuesday morning.

Congratulations

Well done to Suzanne for winning our raffle ticket prize.  Congratulations to Daisy and Sebastian for getting to their Silver reading badge.  We are very proud of your hard work.

Attendance

This week we had the best attendance and for a reward we had an extra afternoon play with a few games.  It was lovely to spend sometimes out in the afternoon sun.

As always, we are looking for attendance to be at least 96%. This week the attendance is 95.9% which as you can see is very close.

Have a great weekend

Mrs Kelly
