Oakmere Class Blog – Looking Ahead to Next Week 🌟

What a lovely week we have had in Oakmere!

In English, we started our new class book Winter’s Child by Angela McAllister. We kicked things off by reminding the children about what makes a good sentence, focusing on verbs, adverbs, prepositions and adjectives. A big well done to Oscar and Izzy for their fantastic writing, which has earned a place on our Excellent Examples wall!

Next week, we will be learning how to punctuate speech correctly and will be doing some role play to act out events from the story — something the children always love.
Please don’t forget to keep practising spellings at home, as the children will be tested on Tuesday 21st.

We also had lots of children reading brilliantly this week and earning extra playtime. Well done to Daneel, Charlie, Reuben, Poppy, Eliza, Albie, Bobby, Oliver, Olivia, Teddy and Sebastian — fantastic effort!

Congratulations as well to Charlie and Albie for receiving their Rainbow Certificates 🌈.

βž•βž– Maths

In Maths, we are moving on to measuring. We’ll be learning how to measure, compare, add and subtract lengths, using metres, centimetres and millimetres. The children will also be converting between different units of measure.

We are continuing to practise the 6 times table while consolidating other multiplication tables the children have learned.
Well done to Reuben, Kalvin and Poppy for winning on TTRS this week — great work and speedy thinking!

πŸ•‰οΈ RE

In RE, we will be sharing the famous Hindu story of Rama and Sita from the Ramayana. Our focus will be on Hanuman and why his role is so important.
Did you know? Hanuman is often shown as a monkey because he represents strength, loyalty and bravery — he even flew across the ocean to help rescue Sita!

πŸ”¦ Science

In Science, we are starting a new topic all about light. The children will be learning about different sources of light and understanding the difference between light sources and reflected light. Lots of exciting investigations ahead!

πŸ—ΊοΈ Geography

In Geography, we will be revisiting what we found out about land use on Delamere Street and starting some research into the history of the street. We’ll be looking at maps from different time periods and comparing how the area has changed over time.

πŸ’» Computing

This week in Computing, the children used an online painting package and had a brilliant morning creating digital artwork. They were very proud to bring their pictures home — well done to everyone for such creativity!

🎡 Music

In Music, we will be exploring how we can sing using different pitches. The children will be learning a simple hand-clapping song and practising keeping in time together.

⚽ PE

In PE with me, the class is continuing to work on football skills. This week we will focus on ball control, turning with the ball, and moving around the pitch while avoiding other players.
On Friday, the children will be working on their netball skills with the sports coach.

🎨 Art

In Art, the children will be choosing one of Matisse’s early works. They will first sketch the main elements using pencil, before recreating the piece using collage. We’ll be introducing layering, adding details with pens, and practising careful cutting. Children will be keeping their scrap pieces sorted into boxes labelled smaller than a hand and bigger than a hand — very important artists’ skills!

Finally, a big well done to Archie, our raffle ticket winner. As always, he has been an absolute star ⭐.

Have a lovely weekend, and we’ll see you all on Monday.

Mrs Kelly 😊
