🌟 Oakmere Class Blog – Let Your Light Shine 🌟
We’ve had a lovely week in Oakmere, full of hard work, enthusiasm, and exciting learning opportunities. The children were especially excited to bring in their Golden Tickets on Monday—what a fantastic way to start the week!
Well done to Ali, Eliza, Sebastian, Max, Daneel, Reggie, Oliver, Reuben and Olivia for their achievements. 🌟
🌱 Science
We have continued monitoring our seed growth, carefully observing and recording changes.
We are now moving on to our new topic: Living Things and Their Habitats. This week, the children will take on the role of biologists, exploring how animals can be grouped and classified in different ways. They will look at features such as:
- Physical characteristics
- Habitat
- Diet
✍️ English
In English, we are beginning our final piece of writing based on Stone Age Boy. The children will retell the story, adding their own creative ideas.
We are focusing on key skills such as:
- Using present and past tense correctly and consistently (including progressive and present perfect forms)
- Using inverted commas accurately to punctuate direct speech
- Developing a rich and varied vocabulary
A big well done to Reuben for earning a reading certificate—keep shining through your reading! 📖✨
Super spelling this week from Kalvin, Izzy, Poppy, Daneel, Archie, Thomas, Sebastian and Carson—fantastic effort!
➕ Maths
In Maths, we are continuing to practise the 12-times table. Please keep practising at home to build fluency and confidence—it really does make a difference!
We are also continuing our learning on equivalent fractions. This involves:
- Understanding that different fractions can represent the same value (e.g. 1/2 = 2/4 = 4/8)
- Using visual models (such as fraction bars or diagrams)
- Finding equivalent fractions by multiplying or dividing the numerator and denominator by the same number
🏃 PE
Next week is Sports Day! 🎉
The children will take part in a variety of wellbeing activities in the morning, including dance and team games, followed by Sports Day events in the afternoon.
PE kits have been sent home so children can come to school dressed and ready for an active, fun-filled day.
As a reminder, this should follow our school uniform policy:
- Plain white T-shirt
- Black shorts or black cycling shorts
- Pumps or trainers (trainers are preferable as they stay on better)
- School jumper or cardigan
Thank you for your support with this—we can’t wait for a fun morning!
🏰 History
In History, we will be learning about King Charles III, Britain’s current monarch.
The children will learn that:
- He is the Head of State
- Britain is a constitutional monarchy
- An elected Parliament is responsible for making and passing laws
✝️ RE
In RE, we will explore Christian artwork to understand the meaning of the Resurrection—a belief that represents hope and new life for Christians.
We will study Easter Morning and the Light of the Resurrection by Jen Norton, discussing how light is used as a symbol of hope.
Our focus quote is:
“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.”
(John 11:25)
🎨 Art
In Art, we are developing our moving pictures project.
The children have already created storyboards and planned their backgrounds. Next, they will begin creating their characters and scenes, preparing for filming in the following week.
💭 PSHE
In PSHE, we will be learning about fire safety.
The children will explore:
- Who keeps us safe
- When it is appropriate to call 999
- Why hoax calls are dangerous and waste valuable emergency time
🎉 Congratulations!
A big well done to Max, our raffle ticket winner! 🎟️
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
