Oakmere Class Blog 20.9.24

Hello Oakmere

I can’t believe we are finished another week. In English we continue to work on our lovely book, Counting on Katherine.  We have looked at noun phrases describing Katherine and are moving onto using conjunctions to expand our sentences. The new on-line reading log seems to work very well and we have had some great pictures and comments.  Please remember to practice your weekly spellings with your children.  We test them on Tuesday and send out the new list on the same day.

In math’s we are working on place value and the children are looking at non-standard portioning which is quite tricky but we seem to be getting the hang of it.  We did our first times table test this week and the children will bring the results of those home on Monday.  Now everyone has their TTRS logins the children can practice the tables in a fun way.

In Science we are going to be looking at the second part of our egg-periment (sorry!) to see how toothpaste helps our teeth.  Ask the children what we discovered this week after we washed the toothpaste off.  We are finishing off our paper digestive systems and checking through to make sure we have all the vital organs in the right place.

In RE we are learning about the life of Baha’u’llah and the establishment of the Bahia religion.  In History we will look at the role salt had in the trade and development of Ancient Egypt as an international market place.  We are working with our gymnastic coach on Tuesday and our cricket coach on Wednesday in PE.  In Art we will be exploring some of the earliest known examples of art-the Neolithic Cave art found in France.  They had a very good art lesson using the simple three shape method of drawing to do a still life drawing of pumpkins and gourds.

Well done to Thea for winning our raffle ticket price and our excellent work recognition goes to Lily E for her writing about the Egyptians.  Belle for her fantastic work on non-standard part part whole models and Charlotte for her lovely noun sentence.

Have a great weekend.

Mrs Kelly
