Date: 22nd Mar 2024 @ 5:03pm

Hello Oakmere.

Can you believe we are nearly at the end of this term?  We have a busy, short week coming up with our Easter Service on Thursday and the school being closed on Friday.  Don’t forget we close at two on the Thursday. The children have been working hard on their song this week and I promised to include the link for the song on this week’s blog, which you will find below.

In English this week the children will be working on creating their own fantasy story based on the events in the Winter’s Child.  They will be creating a story plan which will include character descriptions, which conjunctions, vocabulary and adverbs to use.    In our Guided Reading next week, we will continue to read excerpts from ‘The Princess and the Pea’ by Lauren Child.  The children will be looking at the use of inference in the text.

In Math’s we are still working with fractions.  The children will be looking at adding and subtracting fraction using number lines and bar models to support learning.  We continue to work on our nine times table this week and the children will be tested on their knowledge on Monday.  Please can I remind you to encourage your children to play on TTRS at least three times a week.  Those children who are struggling to access the game will be given the opportunity to catch up during the week in school.  Congratulations to George, Adelaide and Alice our TTRS winners this week.

In Science we are looking at magnets and magnetic material.  The children will be grouping and sorting a range of materials using magnets.  We will look at how magnets and magnetic fields help us in our everyday life.

In Geography we are going to look in more detail at the impact of deforestation on the rainforests and how this impacts on the wider world.  The children will be looking at how we can help with this situation and improve the ecology of the local environment.

In PSHE the children have been working on our KiVa unit looking at emotions and how to recognize them in ourselves and others.  We discussed what we could do when we felt overwhelmed with our emotions and how to help our friends.

Congratulations to Keiya for winning our class prize this week.  She definitely deserved it.

Have a great weekend.
