🌟 Oakmere Blog – Looking Ahead to Next Week

What a fantastic week we’ve had! The children have been working so hard and showing great determination in all their lessons. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and teamwork shining through.

✍️ English

Next week we’ll be finishing off our letters to Floella’s Grandma. After that, we’ll edit them carefully, paying close attention to punctuation and spelling. If time allows, we’ll begin our poetry unit all about the seasons. Well done to everyone who earned their reading certificates – we’re so proud of you!

📝 Spelling

Spelling sheets went out on Monday. The spelling check for these words will take place on 8th December. Here are the words we’re learning:

  • answer
  • favourite
  • February
  • imagine
  • possible
  • remember
  • strange
  • thought

➗ Maths

We’re moving onto measurements. The children will be learning to measure, compare, add, and subtract lengths (m/cm/mm). We’ll also be tackling some word problems to put these skills into practice. A big well done to Thomas, Reuben, and Poppy for winning on TTRS this week!

🔬 Science

Our science topic continues with rocks and soils. Soil is the uppermost layer of the Earth and is made from minerals, organic matter, air, and water. The children will be investigating the different types of soil we have around our school grounds.

🕉️ RE

We’ll carry on exploring the Hindu religion. This week we’ll learn about Aum, a sacred symbol and sound used in prayer and meditation.

🌍 Geography

In Geography, we’ll be looking at Winsford. The children will explore the location of features in our town and discuss why they are important and how they enrich our lives.

💡 PSHE

Our PSHE focus is Keeping/Staying Healthy – Medicine. We’ll learn simple safety rules about medicine and talk about who we can accept medicine from.

✂️ DT

In DT, the children will be designing their cards to fit the lever mechanisms they have prototyped. This is a tricky stage, as they’ll need to measure carefully to make sure all the parts fit together.

🎶 Music

We’re practising singing in a round and continuing to work on our Christmas song.

🎉 Celebrations

  • Well done to Reuben for being our raffle ticket winner!
  • Thank you to families who have donated to our hamper – we’re still looking a little sparse, so any extra contributions would be greatly appreciated.

🎬 Reminder

Don’t forget our Christmas Movie Night on Thursday, 4:30–6:30pm. We’ll be watching The Muppets Christmas Carol. It promises to be a fun evening!

Have a lovely weekend, and we’ll see you all on Monday.
