🌟 Oakmere Class Blog – What’s Happening Next Week? 🌟
Hello everyone,
What a lovely week we’ve had in Oakmere! The classroom has been full of hard work, brilliant ideas and lots of smiles. I’m so proud of how everyone has been trying their best.
✏️ English
This week we finished our diary entries, and the writing was fantastic! The children have been working hard to build detailed sentences using adverbs, prepositions and noun phrases — and it really showed. A huge well done to Archie and Poppy, who both earned a Headteacher’s Award for their brilliant writing!
Next week, we’re diving back into punctuating speech. The children will be creating a dialogue between Tom and The Winter’s Child. We’ll also be studying the character of the Winter’s Child and building a character profile to help with our writing.
📚 Spelling Reminder!
Keep practising these words — the spelling test will be on 3rd February:
- disagree
- disappear
- disappoint
- disbelief
- discover
- dislike
- disobey
- distrust
Well done to Oliver, Daneel and Bobby for earning their Rainbow Reading certificates! Keep reading and don’t forget to fill in your online reading diary — we love giving out that extra playtime!
➕➖ Maths
We’ve been busy adding and subtracting lengths using the column method. The children have been getting more confident converting measurements so they can calculate accurately — great job, everyone!
Next week, we’re moving onto the 7 times table. Get ready to sing along with our times table song (a cover of Levitating by Dua Lipa!). And a big shout-out to Poppy, Kalvin, and Archie for winning on TTRS this week!
🕉️ RE
In RE, we’ll be exploring words of wisdom from the Bhagavad Gita. We’ll be thinking about which ideas we find important and how a Hindu might view them. The Bhagavad Gita is a special text that teaches Hindus about worship, meditation and making good choices. It comes from the Mahabharata and dates back to around 200 BC — amazing ideas to explore!
🔦 Science
Next week is all about shadows!
We’ll be learning how shadows are formed when light is blocked by an opaque object, and how the size and shape of a shadow can change. The children will explore this using torches, different materials and filters. It’s always exciting when science gets hands-on!
🪨 History
In History, we’ll continue to explore the question: What was new about the Stone Age?
We’ll look at how life changed for the people living in Prehistoric Britain — from the first humans arriving on the British Isles all the way to the Roman invasion in AD 43. Lots of fascinating discoveries ahead!
🎶 Music
This week in Music, we’ll be looking at pitch. The children will use tambours to keep the beat and glockenspiels to explore high and low notes. It should be a lively and musical lesson!
⚽ PE
In PE with me, the class will be working on football skills — moving around the pitch, defending the ball, and passing to teammates. On Friday, they’ll be learning netball skills with the sports coach.
We’ll be going outside for some lessons, so please send in jogging bottoms and a warm top to keep everyone comfy.
A sad moment this week as we said goodbye to our lovely sports coach, Ms Boydel. We wish her all the best in her new job!
🎨 Art
In Art, the children will be experimenting with mono printing. This will help them add depth and texture to their collage work and learn how layering can change a piece of art. It’s messy, creative and lots of fun!
🎟️ Weekly Winner
A big well done to Max, our raffle ticket winner this week! He has had such a brilliant week it was a bit inevitable!
Have a lovely weekend, everyone — enjoy the rest, and we’ll see you bright and early on Monday.
