Oakmere Class Blog 31.1.25

Date: 31st Jan 2025 @ 4:46pm

Hello Oakmere

Another Wintery week but we did manage to get out a few times and blow the cobwebs away. The children have had a good week and have worked hard.  Here is some of the things we will be doing next week

English

In English we will be writing another diary entry based on the part of the story when they find the large fossil.  This time we will be focussing on using time and place adverbs, as well as conjunctions and noun phrases.  The children are working on the prefix sub in their spellings and in handwriting we are looking at forming and joining r.

Maths

In maths we will be moving onto learning the eight times table and we will be learning this over the next month.  Every day, we practice this in a variety of ways.  One of the ways we learn is by singing along to songs.  This is the song we will be learning this month.

8 Times Table Song (Surface Pressure from Encanto)

Well done to Thea, Belle, Archie, Elsie-Lou, Charlotte, Sebastian, Olivia M, Oscar, Ashton and Lily E for getting top marks in their times table. Keep up the good work.

Science

We are moving onto a new topic next week and will be exploring light and sources of light.

History

In History we have started to look at the Iron Age and compare it to the Bronze Age.  The children will be investigating the impact of this new material on people at the time.

PE

In PE I will continue to work on netball skills which last week saw me standing on the playground calling out pivot a lot!  I was channelling my inner Ross. The children had a great time and made it into a game which some of them were playing in the MUGA later on in the week.  They will be working on their gymnastic skills with our coach on Tuesday.  Some of the positions she gets them to hold were way beyond my old bones-so I watched and admired.

RE

We have looked at a variety of places of worship now and the children are starting to see similarities and differences.  This week we will be exploring Jewish synagogues and what we would expect to see.

Art

This week we started the first step of our final piece.  Using acrylics and powered ink the children created the back ground of their water picture.  We only managed to cover me in paint and as you’ll see from the photos attached the children created some lovely art.  Next week we will add the movement of the water by sewing.  Sewing with near thirty children is usually enough to frighten any teacher but they did so well on their practice piece that I am feeling optimistic.

Music

We will continue with our music from the past theme.  The children will be exploring the sounds of the Tambour and dancing along to Tudor music.

Congratulations

Well done to Billie and Ashton for winning out TTRS competition.  This week Matilda and Theas work went up on our excellent example board and Belle won the raffle ticket prize.

Have a great weekend.
