Oakmere Class Blog 6.9.24
Date: 6th Sep 2024 @ 5:14pm
Hello
Welcome to the first of our Oakmere weekly blogs. We have had a great start to the year and the children have really impressed me with their hard work and good attitude. They have been a pleasure to work with. Next week we will be fully into the curriculum and the pace of work will pick up which I am sure our children are more than ready for. In English we are working on the book ‘Counting on Katherine and we will be exploring the Space Race and how Katherine’s story fits into this time line. The children will be writing factual sentences. The class will be bringing spellings home on Monday and they will be tested on these the following Monday. Please look out for them in your child’s bag.
In Math’s we are looking at place value of ones, tens and hundreds and for some of the children thousands and tens of thousands. We are spending the next week recapping on the two times table and making sure the children are confident with this.
In Science we continue to explore the nutrition and healthy diet. This week will be exploring the role that teeth play in the digestive system. The children will be looking at the importance of keeping their teeth clean and what foods can cause decay.
In History we will be starting our unit on the Egyptians. We will be exploring their place on our history time line and comparing it to our previous areas of study. We will be doing a little bit of research into the area around the Nile and its impact on the early Egyptians.
In RE we will be starting our Baha’i faith which is the fifth largest world faith. We will be exploring its origins and beliefs. In Music we will be looking at compositions using emoji to represent sounds. In PSHE we will be talking about how to keep and stay safe. In Art we will continue to explore charcoal as a drawing medium and how we can create different textures, shading and lines. I have included several photographs of our first charcoal exploration where the children were working on large pieces of paper on the floor. Mrs. Riley will be teaching the children French and Computing on Tuesday morning. We are lucky enough to have a Gymnastic coach on Tuesday afternoon and for this half term we have got the cricket coaches coming in to work with the children on Wednesday.
Well done to Beatrice for winning our prize this week. Thank you to Sebastian and Suzanne for sharing their Summer Reading certificate and medal with us on Wednesday. We love to share the children’s achievements and we do try to do Show and Tell every Wednesday afternoon.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs. Kelly
