🌳 Oakmere Class Blog – Welcome Back!
It was absolutely lovely to see everyone back in Oakmere after the holidays! The classroom was buzzing with excitement as we shared stories about our adventures—and I must admit, I’m a little jealous of all the gorgeous tans! It sounds like you all had a fantastic break.
This week, we wrapped up our reports on Floella and her siblings’ journey on the boat. You’ve all done a brilliant job capturing the details and emotions of their experience. Next, we’ll be reading about Floella’s arrival in England and her reunion with her parents. To help us understand the story deeply, we’ll be role-playing the events and exploring the emotions involved. This will lead into planning and writing a diary entry, where we’ll focus on using conjunctions and adjectives to make our writing even more expressive.
In Maths, we’re diving into the four times table! We’ll be singing along to our favourite song every day

We’re also starting column multiplication and division, using our place value knowledge to solve calculations. A big congratulations to Thomas, Sebastian, and Archie—our Times Tables Rock Stars champions this week!
In RE, we’re beginning a new topic: What do Hindus believe about God? This week, we’ll explore how different gods represent parts of one true God. It’s a beautiful topic, especially as we get to learn about Diwali and other festivals of light.
Our History lessons will focus on remembrance—why we remember and who we remember from past wars. In Oakmere, we’re looking at the roles animals played in these conflicts. The children will research the Dickin Medal and write about their favourite animal hero. If you’d like to explore this at home, here’s a link to follow.—it’s a truly humbling read.

In PSHE, it’s Anti-Bullying Week. We’ll be discussing how we can use our power for good, especially online. Monday is Odd Socks Day, and I can’t wait to see how wild and wacky your socks will be!
In Science, we’re sorting our rock collection by type. We’ll learn how to classify rocks and discover what makes each one unique. This topic is always a favourite—there’s just something magical about rocks (and yes, fossils too!).
For PE, we have Gymnastics with me on Wednesdays and Dance with Ms Boydel on Fridays. Please make sure your child has their PE kit in school—we’re still missing a few!
Finally, a big well done to Sebastian and Eliza for winning our raffle prize this week!
Have a wonderful weekend, Oakmere families!
