Oakmere Class Blog 7.1.24
Date: 7th Jan 2024 @ 6:46pm
Hello Oakmere.
I hope you have had a great holiday and a happy New Year. The children were full of their news about Christmas when they came in on Wednesday and seemed very happy to be back with their friends.
In maths we are continuing to work on Multiplication and Division. This term we will be learning the seven- and eight-times table. Please remind your children to play on TTRS during the week. We check our scores a few times a week and those children who go on the game regularly show a greater understanding and confidence in their tables.
In English we have been collating our poem ideas and have started our first draft. They are looking at imagery and personification of Winter. The children have been collecting Winter words and rhyming. Don’t forget to send your child’s reading folder in every day as we try to hear the children read as often as possible and that is tricky if they don’t have a book. We check the children’s book every Monday.
In History we continue to explore the ancient Mayan civilisation and this week we will be looking at one of the earliest forms of writing and how we learnt to decipher it centuries later. The children will be using the Mayan glyphs to write their own names.
In Science we will be looking at how soil is formed and the important elements that soil contains. The children will be experimenting with different types of soil to see what elements our local soil contains.
In PE, this half term we will be working on our gymnastic skills and learning how to play Netball. Please send in your child’s PE kit as soon as possible and include jogging pants and a warm top as we will be going outside if possible. If your child is bringing in shoes with laces, please ensure they can fasten them independently please.
Have a great week.
Mrs Kelly
