Date: 7th Mar 2025 @ 5:15pm

Hello Oakmere

We have a lovely week with the high point being World Book day on Wednesday where we looked at the book ‘The Man on the Moon’ by Simon Bartram.  I loved the all the costumes, but I think Jacob deserves extra points for his alien outfit which he managed to stay in all day.  The children re wrote the story, adding extra bits and changing other parts.

English

In English, we will be starting our new book ‘Wisp; A story of Hope’ by Zana Fraillon.  From the work done on this text the children will eventually write a narrative from the point of the Wisp.  The children will be working on writing expanded noun phrases., using conjunctions, adverbs to express time, place and cause and punctuating direct speech.

Well done to Suzanne for getting their reading badges this week.  Next week we have several children getting the silver reading badge.

Our spellings this week are doesn’t, haven’t, weren’t, they’re, I’ve, they’ve, you’ve and let’s

Maths

In maths we will be starting to look at fractions.  We will start on unit and non-unit which help the children understand the concept of part of the whole. We continue to work on the eight times table.

We will be looking at how shadows are formed.  Hopefully if it is not to cloudy we will go outside and look at how shadows move during the day.  The children will be setting up a simple sun dial and seeing if we can use it to tell the time and track the movement of the sun.

Geography

In PE, the children will be working on their dance skills with the PE coach. In my PE lesson we will continue to work on our handball skills. As we will be going outside more don’t forget to include jogging pants and a warm top.

Love One Another - Orange Kids Music

DT

We are moving onto a new topic in DT this week where we are going to be looking at making a small keepsake box.  The children will be looking at small boxes and discussing how they are made.  We will then take them apart to look at shape/net of the box.  If you have a small box, for example Oxo box, toothpaste box, small food package etc, and you would not mind never seeing again in one piece please send them in.  The more for the children to take apart the merrier.

Music

This week we are going to use the musical instruments to create our own music based on the banana song.  The children will be looking at notations and beats.

Computing and French

Mrs Riley will be teaching the children these subjects on a Tuesday morning.

Congratulations

Well done to Archie for winning our raffle ticket prize.  Well done to Olivia McCosh who brought in her dance trophies to show the children.  We love to share the children’s achievements and every Wednesday we try to have a ‘Show and Tell’ session where the children are given the opportunity to show the class the special things they have done.

Attendance

As always, we are looking for attendance to be at least 96%. For the school this week we are at 96.62% and 94.63% since September.

Oakmere attendance this week is 99.17% . Which mean we have won the attendence trophy and an extra playtime this week.

Have a great weekend.
