Hello everyone!
First of all, a huge thank you to all our lovely parents for the gorgeous gifts and cards we received – we were truly touched by your kindness. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year filled with family fun. The children certainly came back full of festive cheer and energy!
It’s been a slightly unusual start to the term with all that snow – lucky for us we had an INSET day on Monday so the children could enjoy sledging and snowball fun before getting back to school.
English
This week we’ll be finishing off our poem “Dance with me Winter”. The children have done a fantastic job collecting wintery words and exploring rhymes. Big well done to Reggie for earning a Golden Headteacher’s Award for his amazing poetry, and Archie for making it onto our Excellent Example board for his brilliant noun phrases!
In Shared Reading, we’re starting a new book inspired by the fairy tale The Princess and the Pea. Sebastian and Eliza, congratulations on your reading certificates!
New spelling sheets went out Thursday – the spelling check will be on 21st December. Words to practise: activity, actual, busy, certain, circle, describe, eight, forward, supposed.
Maths
We’re moving on to data handling – reading information from pictograms, bar charts and tables. Well done to Oscar, Poppy and Archie for their Times Tables Rock Stars wins!
Science
We’re continuing our topic on rocks, and this week we’ll be exploring soils. Did you know soil is the top layer of the Earth and is made from minerals, organic matter, air and water? The children will investigate soil types in our school grounds and compare them to soil from my sandy back garden!
RE
We’re diving deeper into Hinduism and learning about Hanuman, the monkey god.
Fun fact: Hanuman is known for his incredible strength and loyalty – he once leapt across the ocean to help rescue Sita!
Special mention to Izzy for her fantastic work on the Trimurti – she earned a Golden Sticker and a spot on our Excellent Examples wall.
Geography
We’ll be looking at Winsford, exploring its features and why they’re important to our town. Fingers crossed for good weather – we’re planning a walk along Delamere Street to see how land is used locally.
PSHE
Our focus is on relationships and touch – discussing what to do if a friend isn’t keeping their hands to themselves. Great conversations so far!
Art
We’re starting a new topic on shape and colour, inspired by the artist Henri Matisse. We’ll explore how he used bold colours to create his famous works.
PE
Football skills with me and Netball with Mrs Boydell – please make sure PE kits are in school as we’re still missing a few.
Well done to Eliza, our raffle ticket winner – she’s had an amazing week!
Have a fantastic weekend and we’ll see you bright and early on Monday.
