Oakmere Remembers

Date: 12th Nov 2021 @ 3:40pm

Dear parents and carers,

This week has marked an important event in our calendar in the form of Remembrance Week. We have taken some time in the afternoons to learn and reflect more about the significance of this week – it was lovely to have some children share personal experiences too.

The children have created beautiful wreaths with a range of flowers, each with its own meaning - something the children explored in a lesson. We hope you noticed them on our windows. We have also created poems about the day – the children were very respectful in their approach. In French, we explored how the Armistice is celebrated and which flower is used as a symbol for the day – le bleuet (a cornflower). Some children have also chosen to spend some time to reflect and do so, in the form of prayers.

In addition to all of that, we have completed our poetry unit, which ended today with the children performing their poems in front of the whole class – they were so confident, well done! In maths, we have worked on column additions with 2 or 3 digit numbers. we have also started our new Spelling programme, you will have noticed that the format of their homework has changed this week.

Well done everyone, enjoy a restful weekend.

The Oakmere team.
