Oakmere Volcanic Eruptions

Date: 10th Feb 2022 @ 11:35am

You probably heard the shrieks of excitement half way down Delamere Street yesterday afternoon as the children in Oakmere emjoyed watching their homemade volcanoes erupt! To support our work in Geography learning about volcanoes, the children painted their own volcano and then we added a bit of science as we discovered what happens when you mix an acid (vinegar) with an alkali (bicarbonate of soda). We likened the reaction to the pressure of magma building up inside the earth's mantle until it becomes too much and the volcano erupts with lava exploding out of the top of the volcano.

It was a fantastic afternoon and a great boost to everyone's mental well-being too :)
