Oakmere week beginning 27th April

Date: 27th Apr 2020 @ 1:36pm

Hello to all Oakmere pupils, parents and carers

We hope that this blog find you all safe and well. Once again we were blessed with some lovely weather over the weekend. In our house we took the opportunity to create our own fashion show using bin bags to bring our creations to life. Needless to say these are not the outfits that you will see me wearing once we are all back in school! We also enjoyed a nice family walk / scoot by the river as well as catching up with family during our weekly quiz night zoom.

To try and make navigating around our site a little easier we thought we’d add some new activities to our blog each week. You can still refer back to the home learning tab for additional activities or to revisit any favourites.

Remember the ideas below are only suggestions so please do not feel that you have to complete all, or any, of them. Just do what you feel happy doing.

READING

Please continue reading daily. If you are struggling for books, there are plenty of free eBooks available online. There is also a picture attached below that you can answer questions about.

Goro Fujita Tunnel in the hedge

  • Where does the tunnel lead?
  • What is the source of the light?
  • Do you think the rabbit will go through?
  • Has it been through before?
  • How did it find out about the tunnel?
  • Would you go through it?
  • Write the rest of the story.

WRITING

Choose some activities from the Literacy at Home: Poetry booklet. The remaining activities can be completed next week, so please don’t complete them all.

AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES

HISTORY

Try to remember the work we did on the history of Winsford.

Interview a member of your household – can they tell you how the area (or a shop/building) has changed since they have lived there.

What do you know about Winsford flashes? Research the history to see if you can find some additional facts.

GEOGRAPHY

On Google maps, type in school’s address and click on directions. Change the route to walking. Can you write out step-by-step instructions on how to walk to school? Think about when you would need to cross busy roads.

Sketch the route from school to your home. Where do you need to cross a road?

ART

Art competition! Draw, paint, print, collage etc your favourite place in Cheshire.

Full details of the competition can be found on the website below.

SCIENCE

Look at all the different plants in your garden, how many different types can you find?

Focus on one, a flower, tree, bush etc. and find out about it. Where can they be found? Where does their name come from? Are they useful to any animals?

RE

Find the names of the 12 disciples – do you already know anything about any of them? What challenges might they have faced?

Last week was St George’s day. What can you find out about this saint?

DT

Around Winsford there are canals that have plenty of canal boats on them. Can you have a go at making a boat that would float on one of the canals? You may need to test which materials you have in your house that will float, you could test your design out in the bath/sink!

PE

The school sport partnership are working hard to keep us all active – check out some of their daily challenges here, you may even see a familiar face or two!

Hopefully you will enjoy some of these activities. However, what’s more important is that you stay safe and healthy. Have fun and experience things that you might not always have the opportunity to do – cooking, dancing, making films and playing board games to name but a few.

As you know we’re all really missing you but are looking forward to hearing all about your adventures when we next meet.

Have a good week!
