Oakmere's blog - 15.09.2017

I can't believe that we are at the end of Week 2 already. Time really does fly when you're having fun! The year 3 children are continuing to settle in well to the new routines of being a junior in Oakmere class and I would like to say a huge thank you to our year 4 children who have been very helpful and supportive over the past two weeks.

In Maths we have begun to explore three and four digit numbers, looking at how they are made up, partitioning them into hundreds, tens and ones or thousands, hundreds, tens and ones and drawing them using base 10. It is important that children understand how these numbers are made as this helps with lots of other Maths work.

In English we have started our instructions unit. We began the week by listening to and following verbal instructions from Mrs M and our partners. We also explored different types of instructions and followed them to make a chocolate spider and to play different games. We have also begun to learn about and find examples of the different features of instructions. This is to help us when we come to start writing our own instructions.

Science was fun this week as we began to explore solids, liquids and gases. Mrs M gave us lots of different materials and we had to decide whether they were solids or liquids and sort them acordingly. We found something very interesting out about shaving foam.

Guided reading will start in the next couple of weeks as the children are currently learning the routines for this and developing becoming independent workers during the activities.

Remember to keep reading, learning your times tables and spellings.

Have a good weekend and I look forward to seeing you all Monday!

Mrs M
